The Daily Mail reviews Zanzibar holidays
Travellers planning Zanzibar holidays will find an array of colourful landscapes and unique experiences including palm-fringed sandy beaches, bustling historic towns, rainforests and thriving nature parks, and friendly local residents during their stay.
After recent reviews by the Daily Mail, Zanzibar has been highlighted as an idyllic destination with stunning landscapes, adventure safaris, thriving wildlife parks and luxury accommodation.
Situated in East Africa, Zanzibar is a collection of smaller islands with two large inhabited islands in the Indian Ocean, Unguja (often referred to as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The beautiful islands are home to palm-infringed white sand beaches, sparkling ocean waters, nature parks, and East Africa's only functioning ancient working town, Stone Town.
Travellers enjoying Zanzibar holidays can enjoy a range of activities including scuba diving and snorkelling around the stunning coastline which is thriving with coral reefs and marine life. Safaris are one of the main ways to catch sightings of Africa and Zanzibar's native mammals, birds and reptiles and nature parks are home to the Zanzibar red colobus, the rare Zanzibar leopard, the Pemba Flying Fox, bush pigs, monkeys and antelopes.
Stone Town is the cultural hub of Zanzibar and features winding cobbled street alleyways, mosques, grand Arab houses, and bustling bazaars. Most of the houses in Stone Town were built in the 19th century and many Zanzibar hotels are located within renovated buildings. Unlike many other old towns in cities, Stone Town is still very much a working town with residents and is not aimed at tourists but the area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tourists on holidays in Zanzibar can enjoy a range of music on the island ranging from jazz, Indian and Aran beats from local musicians and every year there are a number of cultural and energetic festivals and music events taking place.
Zanzibar beaches offer secluded pristine white sands, coconut trees, warm ocean waters and a number off offshore islands which are home to ancient Aldabra tortoises and idyllic landscapes. Many hotels and resorts have been built along the shores of the beaches, offering perfect venues and settings for romantic weddings and honeymoons.
