The 250,000 Brits want more from their Dominican Republic holidays

The 250,000 British travellers enjoying Dominican Republic holidays each year want more upscale and distinct activities according to United Kingdom Ambassador, Steven Fisher.

Mr Fisher believes that "there's a great potential to develop a different tourism" and with more upscale options, more UK tourists will be encourage to book Dominican Republic holidays in the future.

Mr Fisher said: "Until now the majority wants only to spend one week or two weeks on the beaches, but there are tourists who want other things and Dominican Republic offers an enormously varied potential to have fun in another manner."

The number of Brits residing in the Caribbean island nation is also increasing, with approximately 500 ex-pats living on the North Coast in the province of Puerto Plata, and many are taking part in social activities including the recent celebrations of the Queen's birthday.

After enjoying Puerto Plata holidays, many UK travellers have set up home in the picturesque province which boasts stunning beaches and Septentrional mountain range.

The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola and is the second largest Caribbean nation after Cuba.

Travellers on Dominican Republic holidays can enjoy a range of activities including scuba diving, snorkelling, treks to the Caribbean largest mountain, Pico Duarte, fishing, rafting, boat excursions, watersports, historical sites, horse riding, and upscale golf courses surrounding luxury Dominican Republic hotels.

The Caribbean nation is the most popular destination in the region for tourists and with nine ecological zones comprising lush tropical rainforests, desert area, lagoons, nature parks, mountains and beaches, the island is fantastic for travellers taking eco-friendly Dominican Republic holidays.

The capital city, Santa Domingo, offers a vibrant atmosphere and is full of historical monuments and sights including the Cathedral, buildings from the 16th century and Las Damas street. Shopping enthusiasts can pick up a bargain on their Dominican Republic holidays from Modelo Market or local craft shops where local Amber, larimar gemstones and tortoiseshell are widely available.
