Micato African Safaris honoured with Top Award at Conde Nast Traveler's World Savers Awards
Micato Safaris, a company which specialises in luxury African safaris, has been honoured with the top Conde Nast Traveler's World Savers Award in the September issue of its magazine for its charitable endeavours and programs.
Micato Safaris has been awarded the World Saver Award by the Conde Nast Traveler magazine's September edition for its luxury safaris in Africa and charitable efforts and programs, after reaching the highest overall score across five categories.
Founded in 1966, the travel and tour company specialises in African safaris and provides family, romantic, and tailor-made experiences for global travellers across Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Zanzibar, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia and Victoria Falls.
As well as offering African safaris, Micato Safaris supports the non-profit organisation of AmericaShare and the company was also recognised as the winner of the Education Initiatives category for introducing a groundbreaking One for One program in January 2010 which pledges to place one child in a school for every Indian or African safari sold.
Awards were given to Micato Safaris for Environmental and Cultural Preservation; Wildlife Conservation; Health Initiatives; Education Programs and Poverty Relief.
Managing Director of the African safaris specialists, Dennis Pinto, will be accepting the award at the 4th annual Conde Nast Traveler's World Savers Congress on October 19, 2010 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Mr Pinto said:
"We are deeply honoured to receive Conde Nast Traveler's World Savers Award. At Micato, we see philanthropic travel as a way that compassionate travellers can come to a greater understanding of the challenges and needs facing underserved African communities -- and get involved and help in a meaningful way.
"Our particular mission is the education of Africa's vulnerable and orphaned children, but the overarching experience for our travellers is much larger than that: it's a true and sensitive experience encompassing myriad spheres of African life from women's empowerment issues to AIDS education, slums and children's educational issues."
Executive Director of AmericaShare, Lorna Macleod, added:
"Micato's AmericaShare foundation has long been committed to providing education and tools for sustainable living to African women and children living with HIV/AIDs.
"Our approach has always been to dig deep. That is, we do not simply write a check and leave, but rather, we work side-by-side with the individuals who can ensure our projects' success: local Kenyan social workers, educators, physicians, building contractors and others in order to create a better life for the residents of the Mukuru slum of Nairobi."
