Refurbished Tanzania hotel to fill 276 job vacancies over coming weeks

Interviews will be taking place over the next few weeks for 276 permanent positions at The Mount Meru Hotel in Arusha as it prepares for its grand opening on 1st November 2010.

The Tanzania hotel closed in 2006 to undergo modernisation and after $24million worth of refurbishments, the Mount Meru Hotel will open to travellers on Tanzania holidays and provide numerous jobs for local residents.

Rafique Symonette, Managing Director of Inflection Capital, who represent the hotel's owners, the Southern African Enterprise Development Fund, said: "The 178 room Mount Meru Hotel will change the landscape of hospitality in Arusha. Those 276 positions will make it one of the larger employers in the hospitality industry in the city."

According to Mr Symonette, 147 of the 276 available positions will be created in the Food and Beverage department of the Tanzania hotel, 75 position will be within the Rooms Division and the remaining positions will be spread across administrative and support services.

The company used to complete the building work of the Tanzania hotel, Holtan, employed 400 people, many of which were from the local community, for the past eighteen months.

"The Southern African Enterprise Development Fund has committed itself to using local talent in all departments of the hotel, and we aim to have the hotel managed and run entirely by Tanzanians within one year of opening," Mr. Symonette added.

"We've employed some expatriates to help with the opening and the training of the staff – and to ensure that the highest standards are achieved and maintained – because the Mount Meru Hotel will be of a world class standard, which we'll only be able to attain by embracing skills and technology from across the globe."

The refurbished Tanzania hotel will feature luxury accommodation comprising presidential suites, conference facilities, a spa and health club, and a large lagoon style swimming pool.
