After the passing of a weakening Hurricane Earl, now down to Category 2, it looks like Antigua holidays are safe again and back into full swing as the island gets busy and starts cleaning up the mess.

Island mops up after hurricane passing while LIAT resumes flights to Antigua holidays

It looks like Antigua holidays are back in business after the passing of Hurricane Earl; well at least this holds true for most regions in the island. Early this week LIAT announced that from Monday afternoon onwards several flights would resume operations, but all flights heading to or departing to the north of Antigua remain cancelled.

Nevertheless, Caribbean holidays are still possible in many other islands as services to other Caribbean nations continue operating as normal. Flights to and from nearby St Kitts holidays, for example, have not been subject to any cancellation.

All of LIAT's flights on Sunday were cancelled and Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport which was closed down due to the passage of Hurricane Earl re-opened its doors and gates the following Monday.

On Monday afternoon Antigua and Barbuda were mopping up after serious flooding caused by Earl's heavy rains and gusty winds. Luckily no other major destructions were caused and soon again Antigua holidays will be as pristine ever after the clean up process has finished.

Thankfully for islanders and travellers enjoying their Antigua holidays the 100 mph category two hurricane brought with it few reports of wind damage, with only a few trees and power lines downed.

Eight people had to be evacuated from the flooded community of West Palm Beach, Bolans, in the south of the island, but no reports deaths or injuries were reported.

At least 350 people were housed in 34 shelters but 4 other shelters were not opened.
