Zanzibar International Airport expanded and renamed
Travellers taking Zanzibar holidays will be able to touch down on the new expanded runway at Zanzibar Airport after it opened last week along with a new name change from Kisauni to Abeid Karume International Airport after the Zanzibar's first president.
The international airport in Zanzibar has undergone some new changes after opening its recently-expanded runway last week and changing the name of the airport from Kisauni to Abeid Karume International Airport after Zanzibar’s first president.
The extension of the single runway now enables travellers on their Zanzibar holidays to fly nonstop to the international airport as wide-bodied airplanes are now permitted to land on the expanded runway.
The tourism sector of the region are now working hard to attract tour operators and airlines to fly nonstop or via another airport in Zanzibar so that they can offer direct Zanzibar flights for travellers booking Zanzibar holidays from Europe and other destinations, without having to change planes enroute.
Zanzibar is an archipelago of islands situated in the Indian Ocean approximately 25 miles from the coast of mainland Tanzania in East Africa.
The stunning island is a popular destination for travellers enjoying Zanzibar holidays and offers an array of pristine white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and the historic Stone Town which is the only functional ancient town in East Africa.
As the island becomes increasingly popular with tourists booking snorkelling and scuba diving holidays, the number of Zanzibar hotels is also rising. Visitors to the East African destination can enjoy luxury accommodation ranging from nature lodges and beachside hotels and villas, to hotels and B&B’s in Stone Town.
Stone Town features winding alleys, bustling streets, historic mosques, authentic markets selling wood carvings and spices, and is a fantastic place to witness a real working community.
Tourists can visit the surrounding Pemba islands, scuba dive in numerous marine parks, take tours to spice plantations, and visit numerous historic sites including Msuka Mjini, Chake Chake and Pukini.
The all year round warm climate and stunning surroundings of the Indian Ocean island offer plenty of reason for travellers to book Zanzibar holidays and the new expanded runway should now make travel to the East African destination a little easier.
