Holiday Inn Nairobi hotel changes name to Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi
Africa's leading hotel group, Southern Sun, has announced plans to take over the operations of a popular Nairobi hotel when the current andBeyond lease of the property reaches an end on 31st July 2010, and becomes the Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi.
The operations of the Holiday Inn Nairobi will be changing from the brand, andBeyond, to the Southern Sun brand at the end of July as the 15 year lease on the Nairobi hotel ends and the property becomes Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi.
Debbie Meyer, Managing Director of the previous operators of the Nairobi hotel, andBeyond, said: "We have decided to focus on our core business in the areas of conservation and upscale ecotourism leisure business, and as a city-based hotel, the Nairobi property caters to a different segment."
Southern Sun, Africa's leading hotel group, will be taking over the operations of the Nairobi hotel and adding it to their current portfolio of 90 properties comprising Seychelles hotels, Kenya hotels, and properties across Southern Africa, West Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.
General Manager of the Southern Sun Mayfair Nairobi hotel, Paul Norman, said: "I believe as we embark on this long journey to realign our product offering to reflect Southern Sun standards, we will continue to appeal to a diverse range of guests. The strategic decision to rebrand the hotel, Southern Sun is in line with our company's desire to grow the brand throughout Africa and the Middle East. We now join our sister hotels in Dar es Salaam, Maputo, Lusaka, South Africa, Dubai, Seychelles and the newly opened Southern Sun Ikoyi in Lagos among others."
The Nairobi hotel currently attracts a range of guests enjoying Africa holidays or business trips including 25 percent of international travellers, 35 percent corporate clients, 25 percent non-governmental and embassies, and 15 percent conference attendees.
Managing Director of Southern Sun Offshore, Richard Weilers, said: "Southern Sun has tracked significant success with our expanding portfolio of hotels, and our reputation for world-class service, flair and innovation has spread far beyond the borders of South Africa. Southern Sun has been pursuing expansion throughout the Middle East, Indian Ocean and Africa, and has recently engaged in a number of 4-star deluxe property conversions as part of this strategy. This, in fact, was the prime motivator for the property conversion in Nairobi.
"The Southern Sun property in Nairobi will undergo a series of refurbishments and upgrades that will help convey the Southern Sun brand to a new market. We are very excited about placing our footprint in the East African commercial and touristic hub, towards enhancing further growth in the region," Weilers added.
