Seven Yas Island Abu Dhabi hotels nearly sold out for F1 Grand Prix

Travellers planning their Abu Dhabi holidays around this year's Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix may struggle to find a room as the seven Abu Dhabi hotels on Yas Island are almost fully booked ahead of the event.

Steven Banks, the Director of Sales and Marketing for Aldar Hotels and Hospitality, said: "All of the hotels on the island are virtually full now [for the November F1]. It's obviously a very busy time for us. People want to be right on the track."

The five-star Yas Hotel which bridges the racetrack had only a handful of rooms available to the public because the majority of rooms will be occupied by people involved the big event which takes place between 12th and 14th November 2010.

Mr Banks added that the Abu Dhabi hotels are charging the same room rates as last year which will be Dh3,500 (US$952) per night.
With over 2,200 rooms on the island, there are only a few rooms and suites available at the luxury Abu Dhabi hotels which include Radisson Blu and Rotana Yas Island.

Grand Prix enthusiasts lucky enough to find a room at the Abu Dhabi hotels were expected to pay for a three-night minimum stay with money paid upfront and non-refundable.

Owners of Abu Dhabi hotels on Yas Island are also eagerly awaiting the launch of the new Ferrari World theme park which is due to open on 28th October this year.

The new theme park is expected to drive more business to the luxury hotels in Abu Dhabi as it provides fun days out for travellers with the world's fastest roller coaster and 20 other exhilarating rides.

General Manager of Ferrari World, Claus Frimand, said:

"We do not provide forecasts for prospective visitor numbers. However, we are confident in our feasibility studies, which indicate that there is a huge appetite for attractions of this nature in the region,

"We expect that a high percentage of visitors to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will come from the local market – families in the GCC and wider Middle East."

The theme park and a series of planned and completed projects including a water park, the Yas Links golf course, a shopping mall and a Warner Brothers theme park are all expected to help entice more tourists to book holidays in Abu Dhabi.

Mr Frimand added: "We are obviously working very closely with Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and a number of hotels operating in Abu Dhabi, including of course those on Yas Island, to develop an exciting package for overseas visitors."
