Proudly standing as the third tour of its kind, the ICC WT20 West Indies tour promises to deliver the best in international cricket as fanatics of this sport head to sporty Barbados holidays with large numbers of devout cricket fans being attracted to visit the region.

BTA President & CEO, David M Rice ICC Events Manager, Chris Tetley, lauded the Caribbean as the ideal backdrop for Twenty20 cricket given the blend of “enjoyment, passion, excitement and energy synonymous with both the region and cricket’s newest and shortest format.” Tetley also explained how the tour could very well turn out to be “be the best Twenty20 event the world has ever seen.”

The 15-day ICC event will feature 42 world class matches, which will take place throughout the region at the Guyana National Stadium, Guyana; Beausejour Cricket Ground, St. Lucia; Warner Park, St. Kitts; and, Kensington Oval, Barbados.

For this purpose and knowing how this event entices many sports enthusiasts to take Barbados holidays, several tour and travel packages are available to visiting supporters, which include match tickets, airfare and accommodation.

With the ICC Twenty20 cricket tournament just five weeks away, the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), which is the local partner of the ICC World Twenty20, has boosted its strategic marketing efforts in the United Kingdom, in order to entice cricket lovers in London and surrounding areas to the island for the event.

BTA President & CEO, David M. Rice, CHA , and Petra Roach, Vice President UK, BTA, recently co-hosted an event at the Charlotte Hotel in London which saw around forty (40) specially invited guests in attendance, including esteemed cricket journalists and top editors Andrew McGlashan and George Dobell, and London’s top sports tour operators.

Rice emphasised the important role of the sporting tourism niche and how it attracted travellers from the world over to Barbados holidays. Thus Rice highlighted how the country fully endorsed and encouraged all operators to continue to work collaboratively with the BTA in selling not only the cricketing product but also other events on the Barbadian sports calendar.

The networking session that ensued offered tour operators the chance to share industry intelligence and information on bookings and offer general feedback on uncertainties surrounding the tournament.

Former cricketers Gladstone Small and Mark Alleyne were also recruited to endorse the event, and treated the gathering to a fun exchange on their cricketing exploits over the years.

These major efforts come as Barbados holidays have once again been granted the opportunity to showcase its world-class sporting product offering as the tour climaxes on the island at the internationally acclaimed Kensington Oval facility.

The local ICC Twenty20 Cricket Tour schedule starts on the tour’s Day 11.
