Tropicana still a top Cabaret attraction for Cuba holidays
Cuba holidays celebrated Havana’s famous Cabaret Tropicana’s 70th anniversary last week with the same glamour and sensuality showgirls that have made it one of the world's most famous and legendary nightspots across its seven years of history and dance.
To mark such a special birthday, last 28th December at midnight, about 900 tourists, and special invitees were treated to a special remembrance show in honour of all those talented musicians and singers that have performed here over time. Tribute was paid to Tropicana legends such as Nat King Cole and Rita Montaner and listened salsa, samba and son music.
Special costumes were used for the special show; dancers wore elaborate butterfly costumes while other showgirls dressed up like Spanish bullfighters; some sported faux crystal chandeliers (with working lights) on their heads, gold as well as silver sequined string bikinis on their bodies.
One of the main landmark attractions for anyone taking Cuba holidays with an interest in the music and dancing soul of this country, Tropicana offers tourists with a unique folkloric encounter with the best of Cuban music and dance.
Tropicana’s director, David Varela, said to the press the total client number in 2009 dropped to about 150,000 but this was only a direct reflection of the decreasing tourism amid the world economic crisis which affected Cuba holidays as well as many other Caribbean destinations, and the aftermath effects global swine-flu pandemic. The club can seat as many as 1000 guests, although the normal capacity is 850. But in 2010 he expected 200 000 visitors as world economy slowly recovers and Cuba holidays are expected to attract a record figure of 2.4 million visitors.
Among the stars who played on the main stage over time, under a lush canopy of trees we can highlight names such as: Celia Cruz, Paul Robeson, Liberace, Orfelia Fox, Carmen Miranda and Yma Sumac. Many nights the audience was just as famous.
Marlon Brando, Sammy Davis, Jr., Greta Garbo and many other Hollywood stars chose the Tropicana as the ideal place to see and be seen during their Cuba holidays.
