Sustainable Eco-Cuba holidays with signing of new environmental agreement
For the sustainable future of Cuba holidays all throughout the island, a new eco-friendly agreement that promotes environmental education among the Cuban population was signed a few days ago in the country’s capital of Havana by Mundo Latino Studio and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to Susan MacDade, UNDP resident coordinator in Cuba; this agreement facilitates the spread of further environmental information in the hope of a better understanding by the general population on the care and protection of the local nature, which could ultimately also benefit the island’s economy (heavily dependent on tourism) by giving Cuba holidays a more wholesome and eco-friendly appeal.
“The issue - she continued to explain - is a priority in the work of the organization, both globally and in the communities, especially when the dangers of global warming become more evident and close.”
In addition to this, Omar Olazabal, director of Mundo Latino Studio, added that in its more than two decades of life this institution made some 60 documentaries on subjects related to environmental protection and these could also prove to be a great learning tool for Cuban citizens in their aim to improve the ecological aspects of Cuba holidays for the enjoyment of all, tourists and natives alike.
This agreement, he said "promotes the work we have been doing and challenges us to increase the quality of our productions, as well as to make more understandable documentaries for both domestic and foreign audiences.”
Enrique Dalmau, a signatory of the agreement and assistant to the Small Grants Program of the Global Environment Fund, also stressed that his entity performs 40 other environmental protection activities throughout the country, which means there is currently a lot more being done to improve and build upon the ecological beauty of Cuba holidays.
Dalmau went on to add that all these solutions that these environmental groups offer are demonstration projects, including implementation of new technologies for the use of biogas.
He continued by adding that they have also promoted the installation of solar panels, the teaching to the beneficiaries on their use and repairs in the communities, and the use of more efficient wood stoves.
