After officially committing to invest in sustainable tourism with its "Change the Air" programme, Virgin Atlantic has received recognition for its innovative approach to sustainable onboard catering. The carrier won the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Innovation Award during the prize-giving ceremony celebrated last month in Buenos Aires.

German luxury hotel company, Deutsche Hospitality continues to expand its international portfolio as it signs a new property in Luxor. The Steigenberger Resort Achti, which is set to open by the third quarter of 2018, will be the brand's fourteenth hotel in the country and offer guests a total of 281 lavish rooms.

Playa del Carmen in Mexico records increase in visitor arrivals

Playa del Carmen in Mexico has recorded an increase in visitors and hotel capacity recently. The General Directorate of Tourism in Playa del Carmen revealed that during Holy Week, the region saw an 18.9 percent increase in foreign tourist arrivals and 91.46 percent hotel capacity. Playa del Carmen is located close to Cancun and boasts white sand beaches, tropical jungle, turquoise sea, and ancient Mayan temples.

Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche opens in the United Arab Emirates

R Hotels and the Wyndham Hotel Group have announced the launch of the Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche in the United Arab Emirates. It's the first Wyndham Garden-branded property to open in the region, and it has 179 rooms and suites that boast views of the beach and Arabian Gulf. The luxury hotel's facilities include a spa, fitness club, outdoor swimming pool with Jacuzzi, and a kids' club.

New Chairman appointed for Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board

The Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board has appointed Ahmed Yousef as its new chairman. The country's Minister of Tourism Rania Al-Mashat selected Yousef to lead the organisation. Yousef has worked on marketing and brand strategies for several multi-national companies such as Sony Electronics, ExxonMobil and biotech company Syngenta. He started the role with immediate effect after the former chairman Hisham El Demery resigned in March.
