Malaysia enforces new tourism tax for holiday-makers

A new tourism tax has been enforced in Malaysia that will see foreign tourists pay a flat rate per room per night at hotels across the country. The RM10 ($2.30) flat rate will apply to all hotels in the country, from budget to luxury, but it will not be applied to properties with five rooms of less, homestays and village stays. Domestic tourists will be exempt from the tax.

Fairmont Saint Lucia at Sunset Bay due to open in 2019

The Fairmont Saint Lucia hotel is scheduled to open to guests in late 2019 with 120 guest rooms and 40 private residential villas. Located in Sunset Bay on the southwest coast of the Caribbean island, the new hotel has been designed by WATG and Wimberly Interiors and the property has been built into a natural amphitheatre surrounded by lush hillside, trickling streams, and mango groves.

Abu Dhabi expects 300,000 cruise passengers over the 2017/2018 season

Abu Dhabi is expecting to receive more than 300,000 passengers on cruise ships during the upcoming 2017/ 2018 cruise season. The emirate is expecting 148 port calls from 18 ships across 15 cruise lines throughout this period. The numbers are an eight per cent increase in ship calls compared to the record-breaking 2016/2017 season. Abu Dhabi is looking to attract 450,000 cruise passengers by 2020.

Ayana Resort and Spa Bali unveils its new Kuba Beach Club

The Ayana Resort & Spa, Bali has officially opened its Kuba Beach Club in a secluded white sand cove set against the limestone cliffs. The venue has been inspired by the elements of the island and its design features rooftops made with lontar leaves, a traditional wooden bar, and it has been built using natural materials including shell, wood, bamboo and stone.

St Lucia to expand hotel offerings with another 2,000 new rooms over next four years

St Lucia will add another 2,000 hotel rooms over the next four years, according to the St Lucia Tourism Board. New hotels and expansions to existing hotels will see the addition of new hotel rooms for holidaymakers. Project include the new Fairmont St Lucia on Sabwisha Beach, a new 500-room Hilton dual-hotel project in the Reduit beach area, and 250 rooms at the new Honeymoon Bay Resort in Cannelles.
