The Ranthambore National Park is located in India's north-western state of Rajasthan, near the town of Sawai Madhopur and midway between Bharatpur and Kota townships. Spanning along 410 square kilometres of lush wild grounds, the natural park runs along the eastern-most part of the Aravalli to the Vindhya ranges. Once upon a time, Ranthambore and it surroundings were the private hunting grounds of the Royal family of Jaipur before being declared a Sanctuary later on and in 1972 being officially brought under the Project Tiger scheme. The dry deciduous forest covers open valleys with lush vegetation around the lakes, and open grasslands in the higher slopes. This varied flora supports a large number of wild animals including a variety of birds, deer, the sloth bear, the shy caracal, leopards and of course, the majestic yet elusive tiger.
