Starting out at Chennai, the itinerary journeys through the two southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to take you to some of the most well-known places. It would not be far from the truth to assert that vast diversity that is South India cannot be encapsulated in one itinerary. Day 1 - Arrive Chennai

Upon arrival in Chennai, you will be met and assisted by a representative and you will be transferred to your hotel.

In the afternoon start your tour of the city by visiting Fort St. George and the Museum within the compound. Visit the San Thomas Church and Kapaleeshwar Temple, honouring Shiva, which is the biggest temple in Chennai and dates back to the 13th Century.

Drive past the Marina Beach, stretched around for several miles it is the second longest beach in the world.

Your evening is at leisure. Stay overnight in Chennai.

Day 2 - Chennai - Pondicherry

In the morning after breakfast, drive to Pondicherry (155 kms / 4 Hrs).

En route visit Shore Temple and Dakshina Chitra. Continue your drive to Pondicherry.

Upon arrival in Pondicherry, check-in at the hotel.

Pondicherry, a former French colony, presents an unusual combination of European culture and Indian traditions. It became a part of India in 1954, but traces of its history as a French colony still remain in its churches, cuisine, grid-pattern streets and some colonial buildings. An added attraction is the town of Auroville, an oasis of peace and enlightenment.

Spend the rest of the evening at leisure. Stay overnight in Pondicherry.

Day 3 - Pondicherry - Swamimalai

After breakfast, enjoy a half day city tour of Pondicherry visiting Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry Museum and Sacred Heart Church.

Later drive for Swamimalai (130 kms / 3 Hrs). En route visit Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple.

Upon arrival in Swamimalai, check-in at the hotel.

Swamimalai, is fourth among the Six Sacred Shrines devoted to Lord Muruga. Here is the place where Lord Muruga, the Legend propounded the meaning of "Om", the Sacred Pranava Mantra to His Father Lord Shiva, and thus assumed the title Swaminatha ("Lord of Lords").

Spend the rest of the evening at leisure. Stay overnight in Swamimalai.

Day 4 -Swamimalai - Tanjore

In the morning after breakfast, leave for Tanjore (90 kms / 2.5 Hrs). Enroute visit Darasuram and Kumbakonam.

Upon arrival in Tanjore, check-in at the hotel.

Located on the eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, Thanjavur has the distinction of having been the capital of the Cholas, one of the greatest dynasties of the south. The Cholas were great temple builders and Thanjavur bears witness to this, being dotted with no fewer than 74 temples, the most famous of which is the Brahadeeswara temple, a World Heritage Monument. The city is also known for its bronzes, silks and the famous Tanjore paintings.

Spend the evening at leisure. Stay overnight in Tanjore.

Day 5 -Tanjore - Madurai

After breakfast, enjoy the half day sightseeing of Tanjore.

Visit the 11th century Sri Brahadeeswara temple, built mainly of granite blocks and decorated with sculptures and frescoes. Also visit the Tanjore Art Gallery.

Later drive to Madurai (190 kms / 4 Hrs), visiting Trichy Enroute.

Upon arrival in Madurai, check-in at the hotel.

Most cities in India have a legend surrounding its origins. Madurai is no exception, and the story tells how Shiva looked down on this city and drops of nectar fell from his locks and so it was named Madurai, or city of nectar.

Spend the evening at leisure. Stay overnight in Madurai.

Day 6 -Madurai

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel.

In the afternoon visit the magnificent Meenakshi Temple that is an outstanding structure dedicated to Meenakshi and the consort of Shiva who also has a temple dedicated to him.

Also visit the elegant Thirumalai Nayak Palace that was built in 1636 in the Indo Mughal Style, its 15 domes and arches are adorned with stuccowork.

During the evening witness the Grand Aarti ceremony at Sri Meenakshi Temple. Stay overnight in Madurai.

Day 7 -Madurai - Thekkady

After breakfast, leave for Thekkady (160 kms / 4 Hrs).

Upon arrival in Thekkady, check-in at the hotel.

Periyar forest of Thekkady is well known for wild life sanctuary, situated on the banks of Periyar Lake and also known for diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty, which attracts visitors from all over the world. It is situated on the high ranges of the Western Ghats which is covered by dense evergreen forests and savannah grass land. The Periyar wild life sanctuary offers a fairly good chance to seeing the herds of elephants, sambars, tigers, gaurs, lion tailed macaques and Nilgiri langurs in its natural habitat.

In the evening proceed to The Kerala Kalari Centre which is a great place to witness the ancient Kalaripayattu martial dance performed and practised by dedicated local swordsmen. Traditional masters of the art form perform skits from mythology to entertain the public and show off their swordsmanship.

Stay overnight in Thekkady.

Day 8 - Thekkady

This morning you will explore the park by taking a guided trek in the famous Periyar National Park. Alternatively we can explore the park by taking a common boat ride.

Periyar is South India's most popular wildlife sanctuary, encompassing an area of 777 sq. km. Set on the attractive man-made Periyar Lake, it attracts over 300,000 visitors a year. Though the sanctuary was made a part of Project Tiger in 1973, it is better known for its elephants.

Later the guide will take you around the Spice plantation along with a visit to a local spice market.

In the afternoon enjoy an interactive session with the Elephants. During this activity you will get a chance to feed your new friend, do a walk within the plantations and then give them a bath.

Evening will be spent at leisure. Stay overnight in Thekkady.

Day 09 - Thekkady - Munnar

After breakfast, drive to Munnar (87 kms / 3 Hrs).

Upon arrival in Munnar, check-in at the hotel.

Munnar is the nature-lover's paradise. Snuggling in the green and serene Kannan Devan Hills lies the quiet and restful resort of Munnar. Panoramic views of low-flying clouds and mist filled valleys make it a pretty little heaven with a cool bracing climate.

In the afternoon, proceed to visit the Tata Tea Musuem. The Museum diligently portrays the growth of Munnar tea estates, veritably conveyed through some of the displays like the rudimentary tea roller to the modern fully automated tea factory. Visitors to the museum can satiate their curiosity on various stages of tea processing, and also learn a thing or two about the production of black tea.

Day 10 - Munnar - Kumarakom

In the morning after breakfast, drive to Kumarakom (150 kms / 4 Hrs). Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel.

Located on the Southern coast of India enjoys a well-balanced tropical climate. Nature has composed its magic to perfection here. A million verdant coconut palms lining the rivers lean to examine its reflections on the glassy rivers. Everywhere, nature is at its best. Blooming forth in perfumes of flowers. In the riot of colours of multi-hued birds. In the fresh, succulent and bountiful freshwater fishes.

Spend the evening at leisure. Stay overnight in Kumarakom.

Day 11 - Kumarakom

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Or you can also enjoy a Traditional Ayurvedic Massage at the hotel on a direct payment basis.

Day 12 - Kumarakom - Alleppey

After breakfast, board your houseboat to Alleppey.

Climb aboard the traditional kettuvallams (riceboats) converted into houseboats with bedrooms and attached toilets. Originally these boats were used as ferries to carry rice. Cruise through the backwaters of Kerala. Houseboat is one of the 50 "must do" things as described by the National Geographic Traveller magazine.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Stay overnight on board.

Day 13 - Alleppey - Cochin

After breakfast, de-board the houseboat and drive to Cochin (53 kms / 1.5 Hrs).

Upon arrival in Cochin, check-in at the hotel.

Cochin (Kochi) is spread across islands and promontories in a stunning location between the Arabian Sea and the Backwaters. The city was founded in 1341 when a flood created a natural safe port which became the principal harbour for Malabar Coast's spice trade.

Spend the evening is at leisure. Stay overnight in Cochin.

Day 14 - Cochin

In the morning after breakfast, enjoy a half day sightseeing of Cochin.

Visit the St. Francis Church, Santa Cruz Basilica, Synagogue and Dutch Palace.

In the evening witness the Classical Indian Dance Show - Kathakali, the classical drama of Kerala.

Stay overnight in Cochin.

Day 15 - Depart Cochin

After breakfast, you will be assisted and transferred in your private car to Cochin International Airport to connect your flight for onward destination.
