The Nature Secrets of Costa Rica Tour offers a diverse experience; taking in the capital city of San Jose, river rafting, rainforest experience at the active volcano of Arenal, amazing colours of Rio Celeste and finally some relaxation time on the beautiful beaches of the North Pacific coastline. Designed for those with a passion for nature, dramatic scenery and opportunities to view rare wildlife, the Nature Secrets of Costa Rica Tour offers a journey of exploration with the perfect combination of comfort and adventure.

The tour starts in the capital of San Jose and ends at Tamarindo Beach in the North Pacific Coast Guanacaste Province, with access to several great beaches, for a total of 10 nights and 11 days of eco-adventure.

Day 1 - Arrival in San Jose

This afternoon you will arrive at Juan Santamaria International Airport located 20km away from San Jose City. Following customs, immigration formalities and baggage collection, a representative will meet you as you exit the arrival terminal building and transfer you to your hotel where you will proceed for check-in.

As the main entryway to the country, the Central Valley which includes San José, offers a variety of tourist, cultural and natural attractions, including Costa Rica´s best museums: the Pre-Columbian Gold, Jade, National, Costa Rican Art, La Salle Natural Science, University of Costa Rica Insect and Children´s Contemporary Art and Design Museums. In addition, this region is home to the architectural jewel of Costa Rica: the National Theatre.

Today spend your day relaxing at the hotel. Dinner is on your own.

Overnight in San Jose  

Day 2 - San Jose 

Breakfast is at hotel followed by a city cultural experience on the San Jose VIP City Bus. VIP City Bus is at your disposal and is the best city tour in Costa Rica, they pick you up at your hotel in comfortable minivans with a customised service, take you to the National Stadium where the first European Style double decker bus in costa Rica will be waiting for you to start the city tour with all the comfort and the best panoramic views, a bilingual guide will explain the details of the main attractions, an on board waiter will serve you beverages from our country, the tour includes a welcome cocktail, stops at the best places in town, includes a typical lunch, brief walking tour where you can become familiar with San Jose culture and history, you can later enjoy a marimba live folk music show in the comfort of the bus. We invite you to come and experience their service with typical local drinks, typical dishes, live folk music on board, typical “Bombas” and the best panoramic views for you to take pictures and videos. The staff will be typically dressed.

Overnight in San Jose.

Day 3 - San Jose to Arenal

After breakfast meet with your transportation at the reception of your hotel to depart on a river rafting adventure and then continue to drop off at your hotel in Arenal, with views of the conical shape of this massive mountain. Lunch included during the excursion and dinner on own. On your way, admire the amazing scenarios while crossing the cloud forest of the Braulio Carrillo National Park. The rafting activity can be substituted by a Chocolate Tour at Tirimbina Biological Reserve if requested in advance.

The Sarapiquí River is known as the scenic river of Costa Rica's tropical rain forest, has its origin on the Deception Depression between the Poás and Barba volcanoes and runs for 85 Km (53 Miles) to the San Juan River, border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. It is used for rafting through 35 Kilometers, with all the range of difficulty in three different sections. This tour leaves at a local put-in and runs 13 Km. to Chilamate, with an average gradient of 1.2%it can be run year round, and no previous experience is required safe with several accesses throughout the tour and constant communication with the base. What to bring: shorts or swim suit, tennis shoes or rubber sole feet ware, tee shirt, solar filter lotion and extra cloths to change after the activity.

Day 4 - Arenal Volcano

After breakfast at the hotel, meet with your transportation at the hotel parking area to depart on an amazing guided walk through the tree tops. Admire the beautiful scenarios from a different perspective on the Sky Walk hanging bridges guided visit. Enjoy great views of the volcano and the lake from the adventure centre balcony, certainly a picture you will never forget.

At 5,437 feet, the Arenal Volcano looms large and ominous over the pastured green hillsides that surround its base. Although currently in a resting phase, Arenal remained the country’s most active volcano for the past 43 years. In many ways, Lake Arenal is just as monumental as the volcano that rises above its eastern shoreline. With a surface of over 33 square mile (85 square km) and a depth of some 200 ft (60 m), it is Costa Rica’s largest landlocked body of water. As such, it provides ample opportunities for activities such as windsurfing, fishing, boating and more. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities or book optional half day afternoon excursions. Lunch and dinner are on your own. Evening is at leisure.

Day 5 - La Fortuna to Rio Celeste

After breakfast your shuttle transportation will depart from your hotel towards the area of Tenorio National Park home of the famous Celeste River. Your guided excursion will take you directly to the national park for a nature walk till the amazing Celeste Waterfall. Lunch included during the excursion and dinner on own.

The magnificent turquoise blue waters together with all the nature that surrounds them make of Rio Celeste a place to admire. Located in the outskirts of the Tenorio River, this one of a kind river awes visitors from around the world with its unique beauty. A circuit trail of 7 kilometers will take us through the forest, to various interesting places, starting with magical Rio Celeste Waterfall, the blue lagoon, a stretch of the calm river that makes a beautiful natural lagoon, followed by the observation deck of the Tenorio Volcano, which offers incredible views of the volcano and the surrounding mountains. Next come two more unbelievable attractions: “Las Ollas” which are fumaroles filled with boiling mud and finally the “Teñideros” or Dyers, which is the place where the river acquires it unique color due to a natural chemical reaction.

On the way back we will continue to walk alongside the riverbank, admiring the bubbling waters, the natural hot springs and the incredible scenery that envelopes us. The final highlight of our visit to one of the most popular attractions in Costa Rica will be a delicious hot lunch, before driving back to your hotel.

Day 6 - Day at leisure at Tenorio Area

Enjoy a Costa Rican breakfast while relaxing on a free day at this amazing boutique hotel. Enjoy their relaxing pool, book a spa treatment or massage taking advantage of your 15% discount on spa services. Lunch and dinner on own. Tenorio Volcano National Park is located in the northern part of Costa Rica, which forms part of the Arenal Tilaran Conservation Area. The jewel of the National Park is the volcano, from which it receives its name. The Tenorio Volcano was made part of the National Park in 1995 and is located about 26 miles northeast from the town of Fortuna in the Guanacaste Province. The aweinspiring Rio Celeste (Light Blue River) is turned literal blue due to the emanation of sulfur from the volcano and precipitation of calcium carbonate.

Day 7 - Rio Celeste to Tamarindo Beach Area, North Pacific Coast

â€Breakfast is to be offered at the hotel. After an amazing eco-tourism experience, you deserve some relaxing time at the beach, where the sun and the ocean are ready to welcome you. Lunch and Dinner are on your own

Day 8 - 9 Tamarindo Beach Area

Breakfast is included at your hotel. The following days will be at leisure for you to enjoy your hotel facilities, visit Conchal, Avellana, Potrero, Flamingo and other neighboured beaches, and take time to relax or book any optional activities. Lunch and dinner are onyour own.

Stay overnight in the North Pacific Coast 

Day 10 - Tamarindo Beach Area to San Jose City

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel followed by shuttle transfer to San José to have a last night in town. Lunch and dinner are on your own. Evening is at leisure.

Day 11 - Departure Costa Rica

Breakfast included at the hotel* (flight schedule permit). According to the international flight departure time transfer from the hotel in San Jose to the International airport to take the flight back home (Approximately 3 hours prior to flight departure time). The standard check out time at the hotel is 1200hrs.

fab holiday,sorry review 6 months late!!! Will do this one again or similar itinery. Loved the penthouse suite at Samara beach,but would have been happy with a tent on that beach.
