An amazing self drive tour of South Africa's most captivating wonders. Exploring the highlights of the Cape Region plus an opportunity to see the African "Big Five" as this tour also includes a safari experience to end your perfect trip.

Embark on the expedition of a lifetime as you explore the legendary Winelands, experience spectacular whale-watching and drive through the mesmerising Garden Route. Admire the awe-inspiring views of the dramatic mountainous landscapes as you head down to one of South Africa's most exclusive private game reserves - where you will be staying for two action-packed days. The tour ends with a visit to one of the world's great natural wonders in Oudtshoorn - the Cango Caves. Make your way to the old historic town of Stellenbosch, where you will be sampling wines of merit and strolling through colonial Cape Dutch buildings.

The tour comprises 12 nights and 13 days of adventure and includes car hire for some self-driven excursions during your leisure time.

Day 1 Arrival to Cape Town

After your arrival into Cape Town International Airport, you will be greeted by a Thompsons Africa representative and transferred to your hotel where you will spend the rest of the day at your own leisure. During the first 3 days of this tour you will be making discoveries at your own pace, with plenty of free time available for independent sightseeing and strolling around Cape Town.

Suggestions: During your time at leisure make the most of your visit and explore Cape Town, also known as the “Mother City”. Take in the glorious vies of the famous V&A Waterfront, where you can enjoy the buzz of the working harbour, world class restaurants, shopping and so much more. There are various day tours available in Cape Town and we suggest spending one of your free 3 days by going on the full day Cape Peninsula Tour, where you will be driven along the Atlantic seaboard via Hout Bay, to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and its scenic viewing point. You will then stop at Boulders Beach to see the African penguins, and then travel through the naval port of Simon’s Town. Simon’s Town is situated on False Bay and is rich in history, character and atmosphere.

Day 2 and 3 - on these two additional days at your own leisure, we suggest you take an optional full day tour to the Cape Winelands. This excursion takes in the tranquillity and beauty of Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands. Throughout this tour you can experience the rich historical and cultural heritage while sampling wines of merit at local well known wine estates. Alternatively, you could take in the sights and sounds of Cape Town on a half day optional Cape Town City Tour. The ultimate ‘Mother City’ experience – designed to orientate you and give you insight into the magic of Cape Town.

Our suggestion is that you take a ferry boat cruise across the lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and go for a stroll through the forest to enjoy a view of the ‘Heads’.

Just further along the coastline is the town of Plettenberg Bay and here we suggest you take a tour of Monkeyland, a sanctuary and home to numerous species of monkeys, followed by a tour of Birds of End, the largest free flight walk through aviary in the world.
