Day 1 - Johannesburg to Livingstone
After arriving in the morning, you will connect with your onward 2 hour flight to Livingstone in Zambia and a hotel for the night, the three-star superior Avani Victoria Falls Resort, located just a short walk from Victoria Falls. After relaxing and freshening up, we experience a tour highlight - a sunset cruise along the mighty Zambezi on the African Queen. Hippos and crocodiles inhabit the river you cross by boat, as you absorb the unique surroundings, sip a refreshing drink, become acquainted with your fellow travellers and reflect on life!

Avani Victoria Falls Resort:
All rooms are air-conditioned, and vividly decorated in an African theme with a balcony or patio overlooking the extensive landscaped gardens. The resort has a large pool, bar and restaurant and Riviera guests are welcome to use the first-rate restaurant, bar and facilities of the five-star Royal Livingstone Hotel next door.

Day 2 - Victoria Falls & Chobe
Spend the morning at Victoria Falls for an outstanding guided walking tour. The area around the falls is contains a unique, blossoming rainforest eco-system, watered by the fine spray rising from the falls. This is one of the wonders of the natural world, and you will certainly see why. During low water flow, an optional boat trip is available to Livingstone Island from where the famous explorer first saw the falls. For those looking for the ultimate view you can take a helicopter or even a 'micro-light' aircraft flight (essentially a powered hang-glider) on an optional 'Flight of Angels' tour.
In the afternoon, drive west, parallel to the Zambezi until it joins the Chobe River, actually forming the Botswana border, which you will cross on small open speedboats. We stay three nights half board at the four-star Chobe Safari Lodge (some groups may stay at the four-star Mowana Lodge), beautifully located overlooking the river itself.

Chobe Safari Lodge:
All the air-conditioned rooms are well furnished face the river. The lodge, with its high-ceilinged thatch-roofed public areas fits in exquisitely with the natural surroundings. There is also a lovely swimming pool overlooking the river and an open-air bar and restaurant.

Day 3 - Chobe
With the accompaniment of a unique 'dawn chorus' ringing in your ears, rise up in the half light of African dawn for an early morning game drive. Using specially adapted 10-seater open-sided safari vehicles we look out for big cats, giraffe and elephants. You will see a wide variety of game: beautiful impala, monkeys, warthogs, kudu, and maybe even leopards! The birdlife is also simply marvellous - look out for the darting pied kingfishers, ibis, African skimmers, ground hornbills and a variety of brilliantly coloured bee-eaters. Return to the lodge mid-morning to relax by the pool and eat a spot of lunch.
Start the afternoon with a boat safari on the Chobe River, the main watercourse in the region. Elephant and hippo sightings are virtually guaranteed all year-round. Fish eagles and crocodiles are also often spotted, but mainly during the peak of the dry season (Aug-Nov). However, you can experience hundreds of elephants congregating along the shore for their daily drink - an awesome game viewing experience, unique to Africa!

Day 4 - Chobe
This free day allows you to spend it at your own leisure at the Chobe or Mowana Safari Lodge. You can make the most of the fine facilities or take additional game drives or river safaris. Alternatively, there are some optional trips available: a short excursion is to Namibia just on the other side of the Chobe River or, you may wish to try your hand at fishing for the formidable Tigerfish.

Day 5 - Chobe to Cape Town via Johannesburg
After breakfast, cross back into Zambia and drive back to Livingstone airport. From Livingstone you will fly to Cape Town, via Johannesburg and transfer to the hotel, the four-star Southern Sun Waterfront Hotel which will be your base for four nights. It is in a wonderful location within walking distance of the V&A waterfront.

Day 6 - Cape Point & Boulders Beach
This morning, visiting the legendary Cape of Good Hope at Cape Point. Pass silky beaches, the fishing harbour of Hout Bay and continue along the breathtakingly scenic Chapman's Peak Drive, full of rocky seascapes and cliffs, to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, one of the world's biodiversity hot-spots. Finally, visit Boulders Beach and its fantastic resident penguin colony before returning to the city in the afternoon. Lunch is included today.

Day 7- Winelands, Franschoek & Stellenbosch
The Winelands are an area of outstanding natural beauty. Set in a wide valley backed by grandiose mountains, rows of neatly-kept vines and orchards stretching into the distance, studded by thatched, 300 year-old wineries built in the unique Cape Dutch style, these are a sight to behold. Later you visit the small town of Franschoek in a stunning setting at the head of a valley, and then tasteful Stellenbosch, established 300 years ago and home to South Africa's most prestigious university. Period buildings and historic streets reinforce the town's dignified ambience. You'll have time to explore this delightful town before enjoying a fascinating cellar tour and tasting at the award-winning Neethlingshof Wine Estate. Lunch is included today.

Day 8 - Cape Town
Cape Town, featuring British, Dutch and Cape Malay influences, is often cited as one of the world's most picturesque cities. Today is spent at leisure, with a chance to explore as you wish. In addition to the excellent shopping and dining available within the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront complex, no visit to Cape Town would be complete without taking the revolving cable car to the summit of Table Mountain, the unofficial symbol of South Africa providing stunning views. You may also visit Robben Island (weather permitting), where Nelson Mandela spent most of his 27 year imprisonment. Take a stroll through the Bo Kaap area, the very image of small-town South Africa. Hermanus, a sweet nearby town can be visited and contains the world's premier on-shore whale-watching location (Jul-Nov).
