New York Holidays

Overview

With the ‘Big Apple’ offering enough entertainment, shopping, food, sights and attractions to keep you occupied for weeks, it’s little surprise holidays to New York remain one of the most popular bucket list trips in the world. New York holidays are a hit with families, couples and friends, so whether you’re up for romantic strolls in Central Park or a fun-packed family getaway, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The mild temperature during Spring and Autumn (April-May and September-October) make these the perfect times to visit this dazzling city. Summers can reach a warm 30°C, but the humidity may ruin all the fun, while snow-covered winters add a festive touch to the city, particularly if you visit the spectacular Christmas markets in New York during December.

You’ll run out of pages if you try listing reasons for visiting New York! From the Empire State Building to the majestic Statue of Liberty, New York is teeming with must-see sights. Hit Broadway for a show, shop along the uber-stylish Fifth Avenue, spend an evening at the glittering Times Square, go for a cruise on the Hudson river, or relax in Central Park with the iconic Manhattan skyline as your backdrop. The city has loads of kid-friendly attractions too. The littles ones will love the dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History, or witness Macy’s fireworks extravaganza during 4th July celebrations. With a medley of sights, activities, culture and cuisine across five buzzing boroughs that constitute the city, it’s easy to see why New York is one of the most popular city breaks ever.

Getting Around

New York has plentiful taxi and transfer options when it comes to getting to and from the airports. There are good shuttle services as well. In the city, most sightseers opt to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. The grid-system means it's very easy to find your way around. The metro is efficient and reasonably priced, while New York's iconic yellow taxis are everywhere for those who prefer to just hail a cab. The Amtrak rail system connects the city with the other areas of New York state and further afield.

Chill Out in Central Park

This colossal park sitting pretty in the heart of Manhattan is a welcome escape from the skyscrapers and busy sidewalks. While you won’t find it empty of tourists, it’s big enough to accommodate everyone. Lie on the grass with a picnic, chuck a ball around the baseball field or hire a bike or hop on a horse and cart to tour the park attractions. The park has some of the most mesmerising views of the NYC skyline so shouldn't be missed.
