The Sultanate of Oman is a beautiful, unique diving and snorkeling destination, which offers a variety of exciting underwater adventures for travellers seeking something a bit different in a holiday. Oman may not be the first destination that springs to mind when considering taking a diving tour, but this exotic country hosts some of the most biologically diverse seas in the world and is rapidly gaining a reputation for its high quality diving.

Oman’s coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the south and east, and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. The Tropic of Cancer passes through Oman just south of the capital Muscat, so most of the country’s waters lie within the tropics. Oman’s waters also occupy a small part of the Indian Ocean, which explains why Oman’s seas host such an abundance of diverse marine life.

There are now estimated to be around 130 species of coral off the coast of Oman, which is much more than originally believed. A mixture of both hard and soft corals can be found in these tropical waters, including brain coral, black coral, brown and green table coral, flower coral, blue coral, whip coral, red and yellow teddy-bear corals and bright sponges.

Marvel at the vivid colours as you explore the coral gardens, swimming alongside schools of tropical fish. Oman’s waters are abundant with over 900 fish species, of all shapes and sizes. You are likely to see parrot fish, angel fish, lionfish, tuna, blue trigger fish and many more during this tour. You may even get the chance to see whales or dolphins on the boat trip out to your dive site. The fish population here is so abundant that new species are still being discovered every day. Other marine creatures you are likely to see in this beautiful underwater ecosystem include sea turtles, sting rays, manta rays, seahorses, whale sharks, sea cucumbers and honeycomb moray eels.

Al Bustan Palace, Ritz-Carlton in Oman to undergo extensive refurbishments

Ritz-Carlton has announced that the Al Bustan Palace in Oman will undergo an extensive refurbishment programme over a series of phases. The work will be carried out by the creative design firm WATG, and will see the renovation of the hotel’s 200 guest rooms and 50 suites, as well as its lobby lounge, the grand ballroom, the all-day restaurant, and meeting and events space.
