Sir Bani Yas
The largest natural island in the United Arab Emirates, Sir Bani Yas has benefited from decades of investment in ecology and conservation, making it an incredible showcase of natural wonder and beauty – as well the perfect venue for outdoor adventures and activities. Located just over 100 miles south-west of Abu Dhabi, the island is also the site of some of the most important archaeological discoveries in the region. Plus, thanks to great road, air and sea links, it is also really easy to get to.
Occupying around half of the island of Sir Bani Yas is the Arabian Wildlife Park, which provides a home and sanctuary to a plethora of wild animals that roam free – including many animals indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula, such as the endangered mountain and sand gazelles and the Arabian Oryx. While conservation and wildlife protection remain central to the management of the island, it is also continuing to expand and develop other exciting activities and exhilarating adventures for visitors.
The best way to get in touch with nature and truly appreciate the wondrous scenic beauty of Sir Bani Yas is up close. Both walking and driving trails around the Arabian Wildlife Park offer some of the best opportunities in the region to witness the awesome majesty of animals such as giraffes and cheetahs, and to marvel at the stunning natural scenery of their habitats. For a real sense of adventure, there are also opportunities to take part in game dives, snorkelling and kayaking through the lush mangrove forests.
While the focus of Sir Bani Yas is certainly on its animals and natural habitat, human visitors are also well catered for here, with a wide range of creature comforts and spots for relaxation. With spectacular views over the shimmering, crystal clear waters of the Arabian Gulf, this is a magical place to just lie back and unwind.
When it comes to food, Sir Bani Yas certainly does not disappoint – from family feasts to romantic candlelit meals on the beach. An incredible range of culinary delights and adventures awaits you on the island, encompassing both local treats and international cuisine.
