Paphos Bird and Animal Park

Duration: Half Day

paphos bird and animal park

If you are staying in or around the beautiful coastal town of Paphos during your holiday in Cyprus, one of the most popular family attractions in the area is the Paphos Bird and Animal Park. Enjoy a day in this scenic park looking at a wide variety of birds, animals and plants from Cyprus and around the world, whilst learning about the importance of breeding and conservation.

Set in beautiful surroundings, Paphos Bird and Animal Park is home to the largest collection of birds and animals in Cyprus. Many of these beautiful species were once collected privately by bird and wildlife lover Christos Christoforou, but he decided to share his love of nature by opening the park to the public in 2003. Since then, the number of wildlife species has grown considerably.

Visitors can now see and learn about over 120 bird species, which include Golden Eagles, Mandarin Ducks, Laughing Doves, Red-Bellied Macaws, Orange Winged Amazons, Peach-Faced Lovebirds, Caribbean Flamingos and many, many more. There is also a diverse range of animals in the park, including monkeys, deer, porcupines, antelope, zebras, kangaroos, raccoons, giraffes, crocodiles and giant tortoises. Stroll around this beautiful landscaped park and visit these fascinating creatures in their own unique habitats, surrounded by waterfalls, lakes, ponds and gardens.

As well as being devoted to nature, Christos Christoforou is dedicated to educating his visitors and the local community about the importance of wildlife conservation. The Amphitheatre has a capacity of 350 people and is used for educational talks and programs about the park’s many wildlife species. Wildlife documentaries are also shown here, and there are daily Parrot and Owl Shows to entertain and educate the public, which reveal just how agile and intelligent these fascinating birds are.

Additional attractions in the park include a Children’s Farm, which enables the little ones to get close to chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and goats, as well as a gallery, souvenir shop and traditional Cypriot restaurant, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the park. There is also a handicrafts shop selling pottery that depicts the rural lifestyle of the people in Cyprus, and you can watch traditional woven rugs being made by a local craftswoman. This is an exciting and informative day out for all the family.
