A jewel in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is an island of striking geographical diversity, boasting exquisite natural beauty that stems from a combination of endless coastlines, tropical forests, lush valleys and dramatic mountainous peaks. This tour will reveal some of the island’s most breathtaking landscapes as we head towards the beautiful mountain resort of Nuwara Eliya in the heart of Sri Lanka's Tea Country.

Situated approximately 2000 metres above sea level, Nuwara Eliya (meaning “City of Lights”) boasts some of the lushest and greenest scenery in Sri Lanka. Rolling hills, emerald green valleys, mountains, waterfalls and vast tea plantations are just some of the region’s natural treasures. The area’s cooler climes attract thousands of visitors and tourists during the months of March and April when Colombo city gets hot and humid, but one of Nuwara Eliya’s biggest attractions is its tea trails.

Sri Lanka is one of the world's largest exporters of tea and some of the world's best tea is produced in this region. You can learn all about the tea-making process, which involves withering, rolling, fermentation, drying, sorting and grading of leaves, when you visit a local tea estate and factory in the surrounding hills. You can also taste a variety of freshly brewed teas, whilst learning how to make that perfect cuppa. It will probably be the best brew you have ever tasted!

You will also get the chance to visit Nuwara Eliya’s charming colonial town, which is a delight to explore. Also known as 'Little' England', this former British hill-station was an important centre of Sri Lanka’s tea production in the 19th century. During this time, the British residents tried to recreate the area into a typical English village. The town has retained much of its colonial charm with a unique blend of Tudor and Georgian architecture, picturesque planters’ bungalows and manicured, English-style lawns and rose gardens.

Soak up the quaint English atmosphere as you visit the old brick Post office, small Anglican churches and country house-style Hill Club, which was founded by a British coffee planter in 1876 to create a ‘home from home’ at a time when coffee was the principal crop in the region. The botanical gardens, racecourse and 18-hole golf course, which is one of the best in South Asia, are also quintessentially English. This fascinating excursion should be at the top of your list during your holiday in Sri Lanka.
