Duration: Half Day

ella adventure - glance at sri lanka's heart

If you can only pick one town to explore during your holiday in Sri Lanka, a visit to the beautiful village of Ella should be at the top of your list. Set amidst a strikingly beautiful backdrop of misty mountains, lush jungle, valleys, waterfalls and emerald green hills, this memorable area is blessed with a cool climate and some of the most beautiful views on the island. Ella Adventure Park is a popular destination for eco adventurers, who can stay overnight in the jungle and take part in many challenging activities in the great outdoors. This tour is a must for nature lovers and adventure-seekers alike.

Located in one of the most scenic parts of Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands, on the road south from Nuwara Eliya, the paradise village of Ella (meaning water fall in Sinhalese) is one of the most beautiful villages on the island. Nestled in a magnificent valley, which opens out to an idyllic green mountain range and down to the coast, the town’s main tourists attraction is its unique natural beauty and spectacular views, which are amongst the best in Sri Lanka. Don’t miss the Ella Gap, which is one of the highlights.

There are only a handful of shops, cafes, hotels and guesthouses here, but this small town is an excellent base for trekking expeditions to the surrounding countryside, which include tea plantations, Adam’s Peak, Rawana Ella Falls and the beautiful Ella Adventure Park. This popular eco-friendly park lies on the banks of Kirindi River at the edge of the Dry Zone, six miles to the south of Ella village. The reserve boasts acres of tropical wilderness, which varies between lush rainforest and majestic peaks to flowing streams and waterfalls.

If you want to stay overnight here, camping, tree houses, eco lodges and rustic jungle chalets are available, blending into the natural wilderness to create the feeling that you are living in the forest. This is an ideal way to truly immerse yourself in nature, which is literally right on your doorstep. Wildlife lovers are likely to spot a myriad of native birds, butterflies, insects and animals along the forest trails, in addition to beautiful exotic flora, whilst those seeking adventure can take part in rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, abseiling and many other exciting activities.

his unique excursion is a wonderful way to combine the culture of Sri Lankan village life with the beauty of its natural treasures.
