Excursion to La Digue

Duration: Full Day

excursion to la digue

La Digue is one of the main granitic islands in the Seychelles archipelago, which comprises 115 stunning granitic islands and coral atolls in total. Discover an island full of charm, character, natural beauty and age-old traditions, where time has stood still and life is blissfully serene. This tour will reveal the highlights of one of the Seychelles’ most breathtaking islands.

Your day will start by sailing out onto the clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean on a traditional schooner, from Praslin's Baie Ste Anne jetty to the stunning island of La Digue. You will be greeted with freshly picked coconuts as you arrive, before being escorted to the beautiful landscaped gardens of L'Union Estate. Set amongst lush hills, coconut plantations, tropical vegetation and spectacular granite boulders, the estate covers a third of La Digue’s land mass.
Here you will get the chance to visit the famous 'Emmanuelle' Plantation House, which was used in the film of the same name. You will also gain a fascinating insight into one of the Seychelles’ main traditional industries by learning the secret of copra production, which was a major source of income for the islands in the 19th century. See the succulent flesh of a coconut (copra) drying in a traditional kiln, and learn how it is then made into coconut oil.

Your next visit will be Anse Source d'Argent, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This small piece of paradise boasts powdery white sands and crystal clear azure waters, fringed by lush tropical vegetation, coconut palms and spectacular pink granite boulders. Not only is it one of the world's most photographed beaches, but it has also been used  as a film location for several well known films, including Pirates and Castaway, as well as television adverts for Bacardi, Bounty and Carling. The scenery will take your breath away.

Lunch will be served at one of La Digue’s traditional restaurants, after which you can enjoy free time to relax on the beautiful beaches of Grand Anse or Anse Severe. Alternatively, you may decide to explore the island’s treasures on your own by bicycle rather than book a guided tour. Take this opportunity to make other exciting discoveries, including rare and exotic wildlife, picturesque colonial architecture, lush vanilla plantations and the small harbour town of La Passe. Whatever you decide to do, exploring La Digue will be one of the many highlights of your holiday in the Seychelles.

You Could Travel list their must-see islands in the Seychelles

An archipelago of 115 islands, the Seychelles offers stunning natural beauty in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Mahe is the country’s largest and most populated island and offers visitors the most options. La Digue is the most serene and untouched, and Praslin, the second-largest island in the chain, is a bit of both: one side of the island offers seclusion while the other side offers a bit more civilization.
