Back to Our Roots

Duration: Upon Request

back to our roots

This unforgettable evening tour on the beautiful granitic island of Mahé, the largest island in the Seychelles, is a spectacular, colourful celebration of Creole tradition. This famous dinner and show Back to your Roots combines delicious, authentic local food with island traditions, dancing, music and fashion. Sit back and enjoy the fun as the welcoming local people entertain you throughout the evening, amidst one of the most beautiful settings on the island, deep in the heart of southern Mahe's countryside.

After getting in the mood for the occasion by dressing in a traditional, colourful Creole outfit, you will be led by fiery torchlight through beautiful plantation grounds to the enchanting world of Cap Lazare. This spectacular, torch-lit fairyland, illuminated naturally by over a hundred blazing coconut torches and lamps, will both delight and enthral you. The prefect ambience is created, transferring you back in time to ancient roots and festivals of light. Enjoy the taste of fresh coconut juice, served straight from the shell, as you continue onwards, accompanied by the sound of beating drums.

Enjoy a short tour of this magical hideaway, which is set amongst lush green hills in 75 acres. A small piece of paradise, Cap Lazare is surrounded by coconut palms and banana trees and overlooks a private, secluded beach and a beautiful, turquoise lagoon, which hosts an abundance of colourful marine life. Unique granite rock formations can also be found here, as well as a small, replicated Creole-style village with thatched palm roofs, and the biggest reserve of giant land tortoises in the Seychelles.

After the tour, you will be seated for dinner either in the garden, on the beach or inside the Creolia, depending on the weather. Savour the mouth-watering taste of delicious, authentic Creole cuisine, which boasts a wonderful range of flavours, textures and traditional ingredients. This will be followed by a 'Toddy' demonstration and a tasting of one of the Seychelles' most traditional drinks.

Throughout dinner, enjoy the rhythmic beats of the 'Tanmi' band, or other popular local musicians, who will play a variety of traditional music such as Komtole, Sega and Moutya, which will certainly get your feet moving. An exciting fashion follows dinner, where a variety of traditional Creole outfits and fabric designs are showcased by some of the beautiful local people underneath the stars and coconut palms.

You can then enjoy the rest of the evening listening to live music, which will undoubtedly get you up and dancing to the beats well into the night. You can even practise the local dances with the experts!  Cap Lazare is a unique dining experience not to be missed during your holiday in the Seychelles.

You Could Travel list their must-see islands in the Seychelles

An archipelago of 115 islands, the Seychelles offers stunning natural beauty in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Mahe is the country’s largest and most populated island and offers visitors the most options. La Digue is the most serene and untouched, and Praslin, the second-largest island in the chain, is a bit of both: one side of the island offers seclusion while the other side offers a bit more civilization.
