South East Mauritius
The southeast coast of the Mauritius is varied, beautiful and wild. This area features unspoilt beaches, picturesque lagoons, rugged coastlines and historic towns. The town of Mahebourg has a laid-back Mauritian atmosphere and is set on the island’s largest lagoon; it is a popular spot for water sports and fishing. The nearby Vieux Grand Port is the site of a former Dutch fort and the oldest settlement in Mauritius. Other attractions in the area include Rochester Falls and Gris-Gris, a viewpoint which marks the very southern tip of Mauritius. There are also several nature reserves in the area including the Vanilla Crocodile Park, Val Nature Park and Ile aux Aigrettes where you can see the rare Pink Pigeon and the Giant Aldabra Tortoise.
