Mauritius Holidays

Overview

Situated in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is small in size but scores big on natural beauty. The archipelago is known for a mind-boggling variety of birds and fish, lush vegetation and beautiful, white beaches. Mauritius boasts of some of the best luxury resorts and hotels in the world, which offer ocean-view rooms, pampering spa services and decadent seafood.

Mauritius is well-connected to the rest of the world with plenty of international flights flying in and out of the country. Adventure sports feature big on the bucket list of most that travel here. The Black River Gorges National Park, a wild expanse of green meadows and forests, is a great place to check out the flora and fauna of the island too.

The beaches, particularly those of Belle Mare, Palmer and Ile auf Cerfs are a great place to relax and soak up the summer sun, but they are also great places to catch a glimpse of the whales and dolphins of the Indian Ocean. Mauritius Holidays would not be complete without sampling the amazing variety of cuisines: Creole, Indian and French.

All in all, Mauritius is a tropical wonderland, which will be hard to let go of when your holiday comes to an end.

Getting Around

Mauritius is relatively small, but because there’s only one highway, travel can take a while. Car hire is an option but is recommended for confident drivers only due to the road conditions.

Buses operate in most of Mauritius, apart from the Plaine Champagne nature zone. There are express bus services but if you wish to reach your destination faster, it's best to choose other modes of transport.

The roads in Mauritius are generally very narrow lanes that wind through the countryside, so driving from A to B can be challenging, but it is perfectly possible to hire a car. You drive on the left-hand side in Mauritius and petrol is cheap. Taxis run on a metre and a printed fare schedule is available with the driver.

Fun in the Sea

Mauritius is a paradise for aficionados of water-based fun, presenting an array of thrilling experiences.

The island is surrounded by calm waters, perfect for indulging in various water sports.

The majority of expansive resort hotels provide a variety of aquatic activities within their all-inclusive packages, including sea-karting which is unique to the island. Commandeer one of these speedy water carts for an unconventional adventure along the mesmerizing coastline.

While the eastern coast of Mauritius is renowned for its lavish resorts, the western shore is best for aquatic adventures. Spinner and bottlenose dolphins can be seen here, as can humpback whales as they navigate their migration route through the open sea off this coast. Make sure you book a trip to these wonderful creatures.
