The perfect option for nature lovers and city explorers alike this is a tour to get the best of both worlds in a wonderful full day excursion.

Begin the day with a fabulous walk around Port Louis, Mauritius’ busy capital, brimming with life and plenty of history and folklore. For this part of the tour you’ll visit the lively markets of Farquhar Street and experience an array of picturesque sights, vibrant sounds and inviting aromas. To add to your shopping delight you will find rare and precious trinkets to take home along with many other unique items that you will find scattered around Port Louis’ quaint streets. Explore Mauritius’s thriving commercial centre with its busy port, walk along its iconic Le Caudan Waterfront, a complex made up of shops, cinemas restaurants and even a casino!

A tour around St Louis is also a date with the past as you will notice with a stroll along La Bourdannais Square. Here stands a statue of Mahé de la Bourdonnais, Mauritius´s most eminent French governor. Other wonderful historical sights include the Parliament House in front of which majestically stands a statue of Queen Victoria, surrounded by flamboyant flame trees in the summer.

A delightful stop for lunch right at the heart of this bustling city will be the next activity so that you have time to take in the surrounding sights and indulge in some authentic Mauritian cuisine.  Some even say that eating in Port Louis is a gastronomical adventure, with its exotic mix of stir-fried Chinese delights, spicy Indian curries and byrianis, a fresh array of seafood among many other exotic dishes.

For a brush with culture your tour will follow with a visit to the Jummah Mosque, an amazing piece of Islamic architecture built in the 1800s. Spend some quiet and relaxing time in this temple as you learn about the capital’s most legendary place of worship.

Your last stop will be at what could possibly become the most amazing botanical encounter of your life as you visit one of the oldest gardens in the world! The famous Pamplemousses Gardens are living history comprising 60 acres of land as part of a state once owned by French governor Mahé de La Bourdonnais. Back in 1770 yet another French governor; Pierre Poivre bought the estate and transformed it in the grand gardens that can still be admired today. The gardens are a peaceful haven with a unique collection of rare and exotic plants and flowers brought here by Pierre Poivre from many countries all over the world. Strolling amidst the garden´s buoyant flora you will also have the chance to admire the famous giant lily pond, with its amazing giant water lilies originally from the Amazon and the largest in the world!
