Discover St. Lucia

Duration: Half Day

discover st. lucia

St. Lucia is located in the eastern chain of the Caribbean islands. The island is north of St. Vincent and south of Martinique. This tropical droplet of beauty measures approximately 27 miles in length and 14 miles wide, with a land area of 238 square miles. St Lucia possesses a mountainous interior that is ideal for hiking, bird watching and many outdoor loving activities; its highest point is at Mt. Gimie which is 3,145 feet above sea level. The island is of volcanic origin and has an exquisitely unique topography.

This tour is a splendid opportunity to discover the wonders of St. Lucia. Spend a fascinating day driving around this picturesque island and visiting the capital as well as several St Lucian natural landmarks. The sightseeing tour begins along the undulating south western coast of the island. Driving towards the east you will pass through quaint fishing villages and continue along the Atlantic Coast where you can observe the amazing views provided by this turbulent Ocean. Rugged coastal formations, vast banana and coconut plantations located on the outskirts of the rainforest provide a relaxing scenery to admire before your arrival at Castries.

The bustling capital of St. Lucia: Castries, offers some of its best Duty-Free shopping at Point Seraphine located on the city’s harbour front. China, jewellery, crystal and perfume are some of the items you will enjoy purchasing. In addition there is the Castries’ Market for locally made handicraft and souvenirs; hand woven straw, baskets and hats, wood carvings, and pottery or tropical spices and exotic fruits. Explore landmarks in Castries such as the Derek Walcott Square or view the architectural beauty of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Have a delicious lunch at one of the restaurants before setting off on the final portion of the excursion.

Driving along the western coast you will notice the contrast between St, Lucia’s coastal waters; as the west coast is caressed by the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea. You will journey through lush vegetation to visit St. Lucia’s most unique features. Magnificent views of the famous Pitons will rise in the horizon as you descend into the town of Soufriere.

At Soufriere you will visit the Sulphur Springs dubbed the world’s only ‘drive in volcano’ where we will soon be driving into the crater. Pools of bubbling mud and steam emissions are not the only activity of these Sulphur Springs. They are actually responsible for nurturing many waterfalls in Soufriere, most notably the Diamond Waterfall, which is set within the wonderful landscape of the Diamond Botanical Gardens. Enjoy the serenity offered in this environment adorned by a colourful array of tropical plants before returning to your hotel.
