Coba Jungle, Canoe Rappel and more

Duration: Half Day

coba jungle, canoe rappel and more

Come to visit one of the most extensive archaeological sites in the world! Experience the unique thrill of discovering the wonders of the ancient Mayan civilisation in this unique full day excursion! Hike through the dense tropical jungle, sail away in typical canoes and kayaks, learn the techniques of rappel and swim in breathtaking cenotes! All of this and much more on this unique excursion that will show you the best of the enchanting Mayan world!

On this fabulous day trip we start off at the historical site of Coba, a beautiful and mysterious place that is also home to the highest Mayan pyramid in the area. Its name meaning “ruffled waters” and derived from the 5 lakes in the vicinity; Coba also stands as one of the oldest Mayan settlements on the peninsula.

From here we continue towards the site of Tres Reyes to start the real adventure.  Now is when all the excitement really begins! First we’ll be teaching you the technique of rappel at no less than 5ft over the spectacular jungle that fills this outstanding sinkhole system. You will be rappelling all the way down into this incredible jungle and admiring the awe-inspiring views that can be appreciated from these daunting heights. Next you’ll be doing some Z-line crossing where you will be harnessed to our line allowing you to fly open air at 200ft above a dry cenote surrounded by pristine jungle vegetation.

Your next vigorous and exciting activity will be in a quite different setting. This time it will take place at water as you kayak you way down into the beautiful “Laguna del Mono”. We will be gently cruising along this breathtaking lagoon in one of our rustic canoes or kayaks. While navigating across these tranquil waters you will be able to visually explore the outstandingly beautiful natural surroundings that adorn this mystical landscape.

We will proceed with a gentle 20 minute walk through the jungle during which you’ll have the opportunity to admire and appreciate the local flora and fauna with its many rare plant species as well as the wondrous lively creatures that make these spectacular grounds come to life. This jungle hike will come to an end once we arrive to one of the area’s breathtaking and crystalline cenotes where you’ll have the chance to indulge in an amazing swimming experience whilst surrounded by the grandeur of the forest.

After this refreshing splash we continue for a wonderful Mayan feast against this green jungle backdrop.  Take the time to savour an authentic Mayan culinary experience beyond comparison and sample these typical dishes made from ancient recipes.

We finish off with a visit to an ancient Mayan Village in Coba to take an insightful one hour tour of one of the most important and oldest Mayan treasures in the region. In this majestic archaeological site you will find imposing legendary temples as well as the ancient ball game area. You have the option to either walk or rent a bicycle for the incredible 1.5 km journey to the Nohoch Muul pyramid, the tallest of all found in the Yucatan Peninsula. From atop this incredible pyramid you will enjoy the most breathtaking views of the amazing sub-tropical jungle that engulfs this millenary ancient Mayan site.

An excursion to suit only the most daring and adventurous as this is a tour that requires lots of physical activity and a positive energetic attitude. All true explorers out there will be more than satisfied with all the many exciting activities this excursion has prepared for you. An unforgettable experience exploring the treasures of the Mayan world!
