Cancun set for another successful tourism year with new hotels, expansions and events

After the success of 2016 and record-breaking visitor number, Cancun is celebrating further growth this year in its tourism industry. Over the next few months, the coastal region in Mexico will open another five hotels with at least 2,300 guest rooms, renovate several existing hotels and resorts, expand its international airport, and host a number of music and food festivals.

Mexico becomes world’s eighth most popular tourist destination in UNWTO report

Mexico has become the eighth most popular tourist destination in the world, according to UNWTO. The country recorded 35 million visitors in 2016, which was a nine per cent increase in international arrivals. Mexico is expected to reach the top five rankings soon after the number of visitors since 2012 has increased by 50 per cent. The most popular locations include Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta.

Adults-only Temptation Cancun Resort in Mexico to reopen in Autumn, 2017

The Temptation Cancun Resort will reopen its doors this autumn, following an extensive renovation programme. Redesigned by Karim Rashid, the adults-only resort in Mexico has 428 guest rooms with balconies or terraces located over the building’s seven floors, plus facilities including eight gourmet restaurants, five bars, a full-service spa, and two swimming pools.

Hard Rock Hotels in Mexico and Punta Cana launch Unlimited Golf

Unlimited Golf has been launched at Hard Rock Hotels in Cancun, the Riviera Maya in Mexico and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The golf package is available as part of the all-inclusive experience at the hotels, and guests can enjoy as many games of golf as they like, as well as other all-inclusive activities such as spa treatments, excursions and gifts from the hotel’s shops.

The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun officially opens

The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun has officially opened its doors to holidaymakers in Mexico. The launch of the five-star, all-inclusive resort was celebrated by the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and other government officials during the ceremony which included a tour of the resort, live entertainment, and a gourmet meal prepared by the onsite Chef Ricardo Cabeze.

New Le Blanc Spa Resort in Los Cabos in Mexico will be launched in 2017 by Palace Resorts

Palace Resorts has announced that it will open a brand new five-star, adults-only hotel in Mexico later this year. Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos will be located on the Baja California Peninsula, and it will have 373 guest rooms and suites, seven restaurants, six bars, a full-service spa with 25 treatment rooms, a fitness centre, four plunge pools and 14,000 square metres of meeting and events space.

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya to host new rock music event in autumn

The Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico will host a brand new music event later this year. The first Rock Getaway event will take place from 26th October to 5th November, 2017, and will feature a line-up of world-class rock musicians including Don Henley, Santana, Steve Miller Band, Queensryche, Roger Daltrey and George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

Cancun to host 11th annual Sacred Mayan Journey in May

Cancun in Mexico will be honouring the ancient annual pilgrimage of the Maya this month with the 11th Sacred Mayan Journey. The journey re-enacts ancient traditions including several hand carved canoes being rowed by Mayan people from Xcaret (formerly Pole) to Cozumel and back. The day before the journey, there will be a marketplace with demonstrations, performances, food and locals wearing traditional Mayan attire.

AMResorts to add ten resorts to collection in Mexico by 2020

AMResorts has announced that it is planning to open another 10 resorts across Mexico by 2020. The hotel group already operates 28 hotels and resorts in the country under six brands, and it is looking to launch new properties including the Zoëtry Chamela Costalegre Mexico and the 700-suite Breathless Playa del Carmen Resort & Spa, which are both due to open in 2018.

Eight new hotels planned for construction in Quintana Roo, Mexico in 2017

The Tourism Secretary of Quintana Roo, Marisol Vanegas Perez, revealed at the recent XV National Tourism Forum, that the construction of eight new hotels in the region is planned for the half of 2017. The hotels will bring more than 12,000 rooms to the Mexican region in destinations including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Bacalar and Mahahual.
