Jamaican Mountain Valley Rafting, St. James

Duration: Half Day

Jamaican Mountain Valley Rafting, St. James

If you are looking for a romantic rural adventure during your holiday in Jamaica, you will love this unforgettable ride down the Great River aboard a bamboo raft built for two. Relax in the sunshine and enjoy the spectacular Caribbean scenery before visiting Rhea's World mini-plantation to sample a variety of delicious liqueurs in lush tropical surroundings. This is a true Jamaican experience not to be missed.

Departing from Montego Bay, we travel through beautiful Jamaican countryside in the heart of the island before reaching the Great River in the parish of St James. This scenic river is one of the country’s most popular rafting rivers. Here, your Mountain Valley Rafting adventure begins as you climb aboard a 30ft (9 metre) bamboo raft built for two people. Your experienced “captain” will safely navigate you through the valley as you float lazily past dramatic mountains, gorges and lush tropical vegetation along the banks.

The scenery is truly breathtaking and the photo opportunities are endless. Wildlife is abundant along the river, and you will see many birds such as herons and egrets along the water’s edge, as well as tropical birds flying amongst the bamboo, mango and breadfruit trees. Your guide will reveal many interesting facts about the native flora and fauna on the way, accompanied by stories of the area’s colourful folklore and history. River rafting is a wonderful way to observe the interior beauty of the island without having to exert yourself!

We then travel onwards to Rhea's World mini-plantation, where you will get the opportunity to sample a selection of delicious liqueurs made from sugar cane, coffee, coconut and banana. This private, family-owned botanical garden is part of Lethe Estate, which also contains a water garden, mini zoo and banana plantation. Immerse yourself in nature as you watch a variety of birds and butterflies flying between the trees and brightly-coloured tropical flowers. A wide range of plants can be seen here, many of which are endemic to the island.

Ideal for both couples and families, this memorable trip will give you a wonderful glimpse of the real Jamaica and its exquisite natural beauty.
