Dunns River Falls from Trelawny

No holiday in Jamaica would be complete without a visit to the country’s premier tourist attraction – Dunns River Falls. This magnificent waterfall is set within a lush green tropical rainforest near Ocho Rios and is a place of exquisite natural beauty. This tour will give you the chance to climb 600 feet to the top of the waterfall, stopping on the way to swim in its natural plunge pools and explore the scenic surroundings. Your day will begin with a leisurely ride along Jamaica's scenic North Coast to Ocho Rios, one of Jamaica’s fastest growing resort towns. The area is renowned for its lush tropical flora, beautiful sandy beaches and excellent shops and restaurants, as well as a wide range of water sports and activities, and is particular popular with families. Ocho Rios is also famously known as the former home of Ian Fleming, author of the world-famous James Bond novels.

Spend the morning browsing through the town's numerous shops and craft markets before continuing onwards to Dunns River Falls, the highlight of the area. Considered one of the island’s most beautiful national treasures, this enchanting waterfall is one of the most photographed sites in Jamaica. It was also featured in the first James Bond film Dr No in 1962, and in countless other films since. The Spaniards called the area "Las Chorreras", but the original Spanish name changed over time to "Ocho Rios", meaning "eight rivers", despite the fact that there are only four rivers flowing into the sea here: Turtle River, Roaring River, Cave River and Dunns River. Dunn’s River is one of the very few rivers in the world that actually falls directly into the sea.

Starting from the white sandy beach at the base of the falls, your climb to the top of Dunns River Falls will begin by holding hands and forming a human chain with your tour group. The trip is led by experienced guides who are skilled at taking people up the falls, so you will be in safe hands. Marvel at the magnificent sight before you as water cascades dramatically down this 600ft vertical limestone rock formation, splashing into the ocean below.

On the way up you can stop and take photos or take a refreshing dip in the natural plunge pools. You can also enjoy the soothing effects of the water at the “massage parlour” as it plummets down into the Caribbean Sea. If you prefer, you can choose to walk along the side of the waterfall, entering the water from different levels, or you can just observe its splendour from specific vantage points on the way. The surrounding scenery is certainly spectacular, boasting a combination of tropical forest, interesting rock formations and natural lagoons. Travellers of all ages will love this exhilarating adventure.

Two million cruise passengers expected to arrive in Jamaica in 2017

Cruise passengers in Jamaica are expected to reach two million by the end of 2017, according to the Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett. The Minister said that in 2016, more than 1.8 million cruise passengers visited the Caribbean island, and if the country reaches two million this year, it will rank in third place in the region in terms of visitor arrivals.

Grand Lido Negril clothing-optional from Blue Diamond Resorts will open soon

Blue Diamond Resorts is opening the Grand Lido Negril in February, a clothing-optional, all-inclusive resort. The Jamaican resort will feature 26 luxury suites, each with ocean views. Though guests at Grand Lido will have access to the services of neighbouring Royalton Negril and Hideaway at Royalton Negril, the resort’s developers have made seclusion a priority, giving guests privacy as well as luxury.

Sandals Resorts to launch more Over-the-Water suites and bungalows at its Caribbean resorts

Sandals Resorts has announced that, following the success of the launch of the first-ever Over-the-Water Villas at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, they will be developing additional Over-the-Water Suites at new locations through the region. The accommodation will be added to various Luxury Included resorts in 2017 and 2018, and Sandals Royal Caribbean will receive a further 12 Over-the-Water Bungalows in March, 2017.
