Luminous Lagoon

Duration: Half Day

luminous lagoon

Go to a completely different place and head to one of Jamaica’s best kept secret wonders! Experience a magical evening at a hidden place just outside the charming town of Falmouth. Come and be witness to an amazing natural phenomenon at one of the world’s few luminous lagoons! This rare natural wonder is sure to awaken and stimulate all your senses as you behold the peculiar little microorganisms that make these mysterious waters glow!

We head out to Falmouth just as the sun begins to set and shades the sky with a darker hue. It is then and during dusk that the water’s glow can be better appreciated in the dark. Once we arrive at Rock we will lead you the way towards the boat that will take you through the lagoon on this incredible journey. Once aboard and as the daylight begins to succumb into darkness the sailing experience across these magical waters begins.

Surrounded by lush mangroves and rich vegetation, this incredible lagoon is home to amazing microscopic organisms that emit a glowing phosphorescent light when the water is agitated. As the waters are stirred you’ll see an eerie light illuminating the whole area below you.  So try your hand at disturbing these little creatures and wave vigorously to see the waters magically turning bright blue. Alternatively try dragging a stick in the water so that you can leave a trail of blue and sparkly shimmer behind you…And if you want to be part of this magic you can even go and jump off into the water for a unique swimming experience amidst a unique shining splendour. The waters aren’t even that deep as they hardly reach 5 ft depth at the centre of the lagoon. This means even the younger ones will be able to have a little fun and bathe in these starry waters.

Words fail to do this amazing phenomenon justice! You will feel lost in a magical world of fairytale as you contemplate in admiration this enchanted lagoon. All visitors leave this unique sailing experience with a feeling of awe and pure hallucination as the incredible blue glows can even at times play trick with your eyes. After this you might end up seeing it all blue and even dream in blue…But far from the sad connotations with which the colour blue is usually associated, these shining spots of blue in the water will inject you with a good dose of happiness and sheer delight!
