Negril Historical Sites and Ricks Cafe

Duration: Half Day

negril historical sites and ricks cafe

Explore the back roads of Negril and learn about those places off the beaten track that are rarely visited by tourist! Discover this resort’s best hidden treasures and learn about the authentic Jamaican way of life at these rarely trodden spots that contain the most genuine

Drive through Negril’s most intricate roads and hidden streets as we travel along this less well-known area that nevertheless is as culturally rich as other more popular destinations.  On our way we will come across a legendary house that is more than 300 years old. Visit the remaining ruins of this once great house that used to be an enormous and grand mansion during the colonial times.

We continue our journey as we head toward the quaint village of Good Hope & Mount Airy. During our time at these picturesque towns we will visit the town’s pub for a drink or two. This will be the perfect opportunity to feel welcomed by the townies’ friendly approach and make some lively new friends. Engage in the local atmosphere and learn about these folks’ culture and daily traditions. Immerse in their simple way of life and learn about their relaxed and laidback outlook on life. As they themselves will repeatedly tell you: “No problem, man”.

After mingling with the locals we continue our journey of discovery towards yet another Jamaican landmark. Our next stop will be at the Lighthouse; a 100 year-old monument that has been witness to much of the island’s history. Located on the westernmost point of the island and built in 1894, this old friend provides an unmatched view of the island’s coastline. Although highly isolated and slightly mysterious, the lighthouse still works with solar energy and its light can be seen from the far end of the Seven Mile beach.

For the final activity of the day you will enjoy some time at Jamaica’s most famous café! The world renowned ‘Rick’s Café’ is an iconic place in Jamaica that has visitors flocking by again and again. From its small beginnings back in 1974 where Rick’s Café was little more than a small cliffside haunt offering alternative coffee to Negril’s majestic Seven Mile beach visitors; this coffee place has now come to be Negril’s premier gathering spot. Situated in a breathtaking location at the edge of a cliff from which the most panoramic views can be enjoyed; Rick’s Café has a unique vibe that has attracted a great variety of visitors, from Rastas to Rolexes, literally millions of guests have joined them over the last quarter of a century. And on this fabulous trip you’ll be able to count yourself as one of the lucky ones to figure in their endless list of guests. You might feel so revitalised and moved that you might end up daring to go for a leap off the café’s cliff at 40ft above the Caribbean’s blue waters. Go ahead, have a drink, chill, relax and be moved by this place’s familiar and warm hospitality, we are sure that after your experience here, Rick’s Café will be a place that you will forever keep in your heart.
