Spicey Enchantment - Garden Tour

Duration: Half Day

spicey enchantment - garden tour

Discover the reasons behind this being known as the queen island of spices in the Caribbean. On this fun tour we take you to see the island’s history with spices in this spice-rich region where nutmeg and cinnamon crops abound. Be lured by the inviting aroma of spicy herbs and come along to witness the making of delicious dishes ad tantalising recipes made from the wide array of exotic spices found here.

Our first stop is at “De La Grenade Industries” a unique manufacturing plant responsible for making Grenada’s most delicious selection of jams, sauces and exotic alcoholic beverages such as the award-winning Le Grenade Liqueur which is made following a 200 year old secret family formula. Here you’ll have the chance to witness the making of their unique mouth watering products made from the most exotic spices. Le Grenade Industries are famous for manufacturing a unique line of nutmeg products made from the pericarp of the nutmeg, including the award-winning Morne Delice Nutmeg Jam, Jelly and Syrup. Take the opportunity to sample some of this Grenadine delicacies and leave with a little taste of the island in your mouth.

Our next stop is at a wonderful and inspiring location from which you’ll be able to indulge in the aromatic scents of the greenery surrounding you. Many say that a trip to this Spice Isle isn’t complete without a tour around the flourishing Bay Gardens.  And this is exactly where we’ll be taking you next for a relaxing afternoon experience in the most beautiful and tranquil atmosphere. These perfectly manicured gardens are a true reflection of a Grenadian tropical Eden, a nature lover’s dream come true and a fascinating landscape to be admired at leisure. With over 20 acres of lush grounds, this garden strikes the perfect balance between beautifully manicured lawns and colourful flower beds with areas of natural habitats filled with ferns, wild flowers and even some lively fauna. Their large pond holds many lively species of colourful fish and their winding paths will provide you with a lifetime introduction to the most beautiful of Grenada’s flora, or indeed of the entire Caribbean.

We follow this up with a visit to a wonderful “Herb & Spice Garden” to admire a wide collection of exotic spice trees and plants. Here you will find an array of weird, rare and wonderful plants with unusual names like the zebapique, ven-ven and jump-up-and-kiss-me which have a track record of curing or at least relieving the locals’ coughs, colds, rashes and many other ailments. Get an up-close view of those spices that don’t grow on trees like the turmeric or saffron, ginger, the fragrant thyme and lemon grass.

After such wonderful botanical encounters we then stop off at “La Sagesse Nature Centre” for a refreshing afternoon tea. Relax in La Sagesse’s natural surroundings, blending the elegance and charm of an English country house with the lush tropical vegetation in this self-contained patch of serenity and seclusion. After this just sit back and take a moment to ponder on all the day’s encountered beauties as we head back into the sunset.

All lovers of nature should come along this fabulous encounter with the most authentic of Grenada’s nature and join us on this incredible journey through its spice-rich heartland.  Discover the many exotic spices that abound here and have given the country its popular name. After all Grenada isn’t called the Spice Island for nothing!
