Playa Grande and Gri-gri Lagoon

Duration: Half Day

playa grande and gri-gri lagoon

Discover the breathtaking beauty of Playa Grande, a beautiful beach of enormous proportions and endless stretches of white sand and warm turquoise waters... Probably the most famous of all beaches in the whole Dominican Republic! And certainly one you will have the privilege of visiting whilst on this fantastic tour; a tour specially prepared to amaze you with the natural beauties of the Dominican Republic and its fantastic eco-wonders.

But just before you get to this vast beach wonder you will enjoy a motor boat trip across deep mangroves and a wondrous vegetation that will guide you all the way through to Laguna Gri Gri. This exceptional lagoon of crystal clear waters is also famous for its rich bird life with its great variety of aviary exemplars. From your visit here you'll be able to recognise some beautiful tropical species and indulge in some serious bird watching.

This lagoon will also delight your eyes with the beautiful sight of caves and a unique crystal clear cove known as "La Piscina", a natural pool in which you'll have the opportunity to swim and bathe at your leisure. The lagoon offers other natural wonders like many cliffs from where you can dive, a tree from which you jump off and many different diving places around the edges. Nearby there are many mysterious caves for exploring or simply keeping in your memory forever in the form of beautiful photographs that you'll have the opportunity to take yourself.

From here you will continue to have a delicious buffet lunch served in a picturesque countryside location in a typical village restaurant. Whilst at this charming and quaint place you will have the opportunity to wander off at your leisure and visit the small nearby plantation where you will see and delight in sampling the many fruits that grow here.

And for the last surprise that this tour has to offer you'll be taken to finish off your days' activities at the wonderful Playa Grande, a paradise of relaxation and seclusion. Located at the North Coast of the Dominican Republic this is an unusually large beach covering no less than 2000 acres with a beautiful topography including panoramic cliffs and 5 miles of Atlantic Ocean. The place is paradisiacal in every way, with its untouched lush landscape made up of old trees and imposing Royal palms.

Moreover, this beach also has a fantastic golf course built in its western coast and cut into the cliffs over the sea. And if all this doesn't sound tempting enough, Playa Grande also counts with underground springs of abundant fresh water, and the neighbouring land is made up of charming small farms and beautiful forestall grounds.

With all of these features it's no wonder that this tour has been called time and time again: A true delight of a Dominican eco adventure!

You will enjoy the motor launch ride through the mangroves and the crystal-clear waters of the Gri-Gri Lagoon, noted for its rich bird life. A buffet lunch (included) is served at a typical village restaurant and a chance to wander through the adjacent small plantation to see and taste the great variety of tropical fruits that grow here. We continue the short drive to the beach of Playa Grande (Big Beach), a long, long stretch of soft pale sand lapped by turquoise waters. This is the perfect spot for stretching out and topping up the suntan or maybe some body surfing if the waves are up.
