4x4 Tour to Private Reserve

Duration: Half Day

4x4 tour to private reserve

Travel far off the beaten track during your holiday in Costa Rica, on a thrilling four-wheel-drive adventure that will take you deep into the Costa Rican countryside. This tour reveals spectacular landscapes and living examples of traditional Costa Rican culture.

Your own bilingual driver and naturalist guide will take you through the beautiful Los Santos region to the isolated rural village of Quebrada Arroyo. Visit Los Campesinos project and see how the people of the Quebrada Arroyo community substituted their agricultural traditional economy for an eco-tourist venture. Interact with the real Tico lifestyle; learn about the history of the village farming practices and the traditional uses for many of the plants and trees. Hear the local people’s inspiring stories, each one dedicated to the conservation of forests, wildlife and water. This wonderful project aims to preserve local culture and traditions, passed down from generation to generation, whilst providing income for families within Costa Rica’s rural communities.

Los Campesinos project is a private reserve, of which the people of the Quebrada Arroyo community are guardians. Located in the basin of the Savegre River, the reserve has 34 hectares of primary and secondary forest. It also features the longest canopy walkway in the region, a suspended bridge that crosses a deep gorge and the cascading Los Chorros waterfall. Follow the guided walking trails, which reveal beautiful native flora and fauna.

The Poza de Olivo Trail will lead you over the suspended bridge to Poza de Olivo, a clear, natural pool in which you can relax and swim amidst beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Los Chorros Trail will take you under the suspended bridge to impressive water springs, where you can also take a refreshing dip in the Chorros natural pool.

Enjoy a trip on the small aerial tram through giant trees, which passes through the highest point in the forest. When you reach the Mirador El Pacifico view point, you can see spectacular views of the Manual Antonio landscape and Rio Savegre Valley.

Lunch will take place at a small open cafeteria where you can enjoy the best of traditional Costa Rican food from the locals who prepare it. Within an area of striking natural beauty, this tour will open your eyes to community-based rural tourism in Costa Rica and the wonderful way the local people preserve their culture.

What to bring: Cool comfortable clothes, hiking shoes, swimsuit, towel, hat, sunblock, insect repellent, binoculars and camera.
