Hacienda Pozo Azul

Duration: Half Day

hacienda pozo azul

Hacienda Pozo Azul is the ideal eco-adventure destination during a holiday in Costa Rica, giving you an unforgettable experience. Set in 2,000 acres, this working ranch in Sarapiqui, approximately 90 minutes away from San Jose, offers numerous walking trails, plenty of rich, natural fauna and beautiful rivers and waterfalls.

Explore these spectacular grounds on horseback through pristine forest, or gain a different perspective as you raft down the white waters of the Sarapiqui River. Hop on a mountain bike and ride around the back roads to view some of the most beautiful countryside in Costa Rica, or travel by foot and hike along the hacienda nature trails. Whichever way you decide to explore Hacienda Pozo Azul, nature will envelop you wherever you go.

Look out for beautiful native bird species as you drift down the Sarapiqui River. For the more adventurous traveller, prepare for an adrenaline rush as you discover the wonders of Hacienda Pozo Azul from high above the forest canopies during a thrilling Treetop Canopy Ride. Fly through this magnificent jungle setting on a zip wire, over 17 platforms, ending with a spectacular 900-foot zip line across the Sarapiqui River.

Alternatively, feel the exhilaration of white water rafting on the Sarapiqui's year-round, class II and III rapids. The class IV rapids are also available upon request for the experts. Top quality equipment is provided and experienced certified guides will be on hand throughout the ride. If this isn’t enough excitement for you, you can always rappel down the Sarapiqui River canyon, attached to special safety ropes, of course.

Hacienda Pozo Azul also operates a modern and unique dairy, where everything is recycled and nothing goes to waste. Manure produces the electricity to cool their 300 cows, while compost provides high quality organic fertilizer, with the help of earthworms. Visitors are invited to tour the ecological facilities of this hacienda for a fascinating learning experience, including the black pepper grove and reforestation project.

Experience the wonder of nature and the importance of its conservation in this inspiring place of rich natural beauty.

What to bring: Sun block, swimsuit, rubber shoes or tennis shoes, towel and a change of clothes and shoes. Length of tour: Full day.
