Diving in Costa Rica
Duration: Half Day
As well as offering lush tropical rainforests, fascinating volcanoes and stunning white-sand beaches, Costa Rica is renowned for having some of the best diving spots in the world. The Pacific coast in particular will give you a fascinating glimpse of a unique underwater world that ranges from coastal coral reefs and volcanic rock formations to offshore islands, which are the habitats of an overwhelming variety of marine life. This tour will take you to some of the most popular and exciting diving sites, providing you with unforgettable underwater encounters to treasure on your holiday in Costa Rica.
A fantastic diversity of tropical marine life, warm water and good visibility attracts numerous visitors to the spectacular dive sites in the Pacific Ocean. One such site is the Catalina Islands, a small cluster of rocky islands off the Pacific coast. Here, divers will find a large population of white-tip reef sharks, numerous ray species, including spotted eagle, cow-nose and manta, and an abundance of other beautiful marine species such as octopus, sea turtles, eels, shrimps, seahorses, parrotfish, snapper, and angelfish. If you are lucky, you may even see spinner dolphins, whale sharks, tiger sharks, humpback whales and pilot whales on your trip, all of which are attracted to the warm Pacific waters.
To the north, the famous Bat Islands (Isla Murcielagos) is another popular and unique dive site, consisting of a number of offshore rocky islands. The exposed location of these islands guarantees an abundant variety of marine life that is hard to find anywhere else. Bull sharks are particularly attracted to this area, as well as giant stingrays, starfish, frogfish, horse-eye jacks, spade fish, snapper and wahoo. The different types of fish and other marine species living around the islands’ waters are not usually found together, but for some unknown reason, these sea creatures live together in harmony. Scientists have been exploring the areas to find out why. This is just one of the reasons why visitors from all over the world are drawn to these particular diving sites. Due to stronger currents, diving here may prove more challenging than other areas, but the effort will be well rewarded.
Swimming in and out of tropical fish, amongst an awe-inspiring, colourful landscape of pinnacles, coral and sponges: this diving tour is an amazing experience that you certainly won’t forget.
