Duration: Half Day
If you are looking for sun and relaxation on your holiday in Costa Rica, a visit to Guanacaste’s Gold Coast will reward you with some of the best beach locations in Central America. Costa Rica is blessed with beautiful beaches (playas) on every coast, but the province of Guanacaste in the North Pacific is particularly popular with tourists, renowned for its idyllic, white-sand beaches and crystal clear waters.
With so many beautiful beaches to choose from on this Pacific coast, it can be difficult to decide which to visit. This tour, however, will take you to some of the best in the region, including Playa Pan de Azúcar (Sugar beach), Potrero and Flamingo beach, enabling you to sample both the relaxed and the livelier areas.
Playa Pan de Azúcar, otherwise known as Sugar Beach, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Central America. Located at the foot of a coastal range of volcanic rock, the powdery sugar-white sand in this small bay is particularly beautiful, hence the alternative name. The beach itself is quiet and secluded, making it an extremely romantic location for couples.
Swim in the clear azure waters; listen to the sounds of the native wildlife or snorkel amongst colourful tropical fish and other marine life in a fascinating underwater world. Walk along the shore and admire the islands of Chocoyas and Plata, whilst marvelling at one of the spectacular sunsets that never fails to inspire visitors to this coast. Sugar Beach is undoubtedly a small piece of paradise.
In contrast, Playa Flamingo is a popular beach that has a marina and a vibrant nightlife, offering a casino, discos and a variety of restaurants and bars. The beach is famous for its pristine white sands and clear blue waters, and the area is popular for water sports and sport fishing. Avid fishermen come from all over the world to catch marlin, tuna, dorado, sailfish and many other species.
Located north of Flamingo, Potrero is a long, beautiful beach that stretches several miles between the towns of Flamingo and Potrero. Boasting clear, calm waters, which are prefect for swimming and fishing, and magnificent scenery, this tranquil bay is the perfect place to relax and get away from the crowds. The area behind Potrero beach also features mangrove swamps, estuaries and tropical dry forest, which provide habitats for many native wildlife species.
On this tour, you will also be shown the famous luxury homes in the area as you continue to Brasilito Bay, meaning “little Brazil” in English. Here you can collect shells and enjoy a cold drink before returning to your resort.
What to bring: cool comfortable clothes (t-shirt and shorts are recommended), bathing suit, towel, tennis shoes or sandals, sun block, insect repellent, hat, binoculars and camera. Length of tour: Half Day.
