Costa Rica for couples

Costa Rica is a wonderful destination for a holiday for two, particularly if you are hoping to travel sustainably, as so many of the country's hotels and tour operators are eco-conscious. There are options here to suit all budgets, from luxurious to more basic accommodation.

With its glorious beaches on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, as well as secluded retreats in the rainforests and mountains, you can tailor your romantic getaway to meet your needs and cater to your passions. There are plenty of opportunities for simply relaxing, especially on the beaches, while fun-loving couples won't be short of adventurous activities to try together.

Romantic attractions in Costa Rica

Visiting the coast on your holiday in Costa Rica is a must, with numerous secluded stretches of sand where you can lie back and relax in the glorious sunshine. On the Caribbean coast you can look forward to stunning sunrises (if you can get out of bed early enough), while on the Pacific side you'll see spectacular sunsets.

If you want to treat your loved one to a special trip, you can stay in one of Costa Rica's high-end hotels close to the beach for a real pampering experience. Some of the top luxury eco lodges in the world are situated on the country's Pacific coast, so head here if you're keen to travel responsibly without giving up on your creature comforts.

Should you and your partner want to see some of Costa Rica's amazing nature, don't miss the opportunity to visit a turtle nesting beach - you can see the turtles hatching on Tortuguero beach in the Caribbean coast during April and May.

Venture into one of Costa Rica's national parks for a day or two to see some more of its exotic flora and fauna. The Arenal National Park is a particularly good choice, as it's home to an active volcano as well as the breathtaking La Fortuna waterfall and the stunning Venado caves.

Activities for fun-loving couples

Your tour of Costa Rica doesn't only have to be about relaxing and taking things easy, though, as there are plenty of fantastic activities for fun-loving couples to have a go at. Horseback riding through the rainforest or along a pristine sandy beach is a romantic way to spend a few hours, while a gentle kayaking tour for two along the coast or down one of Costa Rica's rivers is another memorable excursion.

If you are serious thrill-seekers you can go on a ziplining tour and zip your way along the rainforest enjoying magnificent birds' eye views. Or, if you like to get active on water, you will find plenty of surfing and windsurfing opportunities on the Pacific coast, as well as other water sports.

Another adventure you can share together is scuba diving on Costa Rica's beautiful coral reefs. The Cocos Island Marine Conservation Area is a must-visit for experienced divers due to the incredible variety of underwater life that can be seen here, while there are several dive schools where you can take your first qualification if you have yet to delve beneath the surface.

Costa Rica is not known for being a party destination, with evenings usually spent enjoying a wonderful sunset and a few cocktails in a natural setting rather than dancing the night away in a club. However, the big cities, such as San Jose, are home to various bars and nightspots, should you wish to plan an evening out during your holiday.

Honeymoons in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a fantastic place to go for your honeymoon, and you will certainly have a memorable holiday to begin your life as husband and wife. The laidback luxury you'll discover here is perfect for couples who want to savour their time away together, while the chance to explore exotic and fascinating natural environments will allow you to create lasting memories.

Imagine starting your holiday by one of the stunning beaches on the Caribbean coast, before spending a few nights surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest in the mountains, where you can hike, go horseback riding or glide through the canopy on a tour of the rainforest's treetops. Wind up your trip with a stay in one of the luxury eco lodges on the Pacific coast, where the rugged beauty of the waves crashing into the beaches will take your breath away.
