Golf at Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club
Duration: Half Day
If a day of golf appeals to you on your holiday in Bermuda, Riddell's Bay Golf & Country Club is one of the best venues on the island.
Located in Warwick, about 15 minutes from Hamilton and about 40 minutes from St. Georges, Riddell's Bay Golf & Country Club is the oldest golf course in Bermuda, having opened in 1922. The 18-hole course was originally designed by architect Devereux Emmett, who also built the Congressional near Washington D.C, but it has gradually acquired a more contemporary design, accommodating improved golfing equipment and higher standards of play.
Although Riddell's Bay is a private club, visitors to the island are always welcome. With its friendly atmosphere and unique charm, it is no wonder that many visitors return to the club again and again. If you need any golfing tips and advice whilst you are there, a team of friendly professionals will even be on hand to provide assistance.
The course itself winds along a peninsula, which measures approximately 600 yards at its widest point. Surrounded by colourful Bermudian flowers and lush plants and trees, these scenic links offer spectacular panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Bermuda’s coastline, providing golfers with a challenging game in beautiful surroundings.
If you pause for a break, it’s worth getting your camera out whilst you are there! Course challenges include two ponds and three ocean holes. The first hole is undoubtedly the most difficult opener on any of the island's nine courses, and golfers have to be aware that winds from the sea are an important factor. The 8th hole, a dog-leg right, is the one to be prepared for, however. If you are not accurate, you could end up shooting onto a green which is surrounded by water. If you miss, you will be compensated slightly by being able to enjoy views of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse in the distance.
After all those rounds of golf, you can stop for refreshments in the Clubhouse, which was originally a 150 year old farmhouse before being refurbished in 1998. Enjoy a light snack or three-course dinner with wine in the dining room, or relax with a beverage in the Bermuda cedar bar. Locker rooms and shower facilities are also available.
Offering beautiful scenery and plenty of challenges, the Bermudians’ regard Riddell's Bay Golf & Country Club as a gem that must be played.
