Cherry Tree Hill Walk - Meet Barbados

Located to the east of the Windward Islands in the south-eastern Caribbean, the beautiful island of Barbados is renowned for its spectacular scenery. From the rugged Atlantic coastline in the East to the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea on the West Coast, the beaches alone attract visitors from all over the world. Inland, the landscapes change dramatically, gently rising to rolling limestone hills, tropical forests and mountainous peaks. This tour will enable you to enjoy some of the most memorable vistas on the island – from the famous Cherry Tree Hill.

Located in the Northeast of the island, in the hilly parish of St Andrew, Cherry Tree Hill lies approximately 850 feet above sea level. It was given its name due to the large number of cherry trees that once existed in the area, but today the avenue leading up to the hill is lined by old mahogany trees, which were reputedly introduced to Barbados after the Treaty of Paris in 1763. This road is the main drive between St Nicholas Abbey and Bathsheba, which are also worth a visit.

The central attraction at Cherry Tree Hill is its spectacular views that stretch over the majestic, rugged Scotland District. This region was named after a Patron Saint of Scotland and famously hosts the Western Hemisphere’s only working sugarcane windmill – Morgan Lewis. Your guided walk will enable you to appreciate the beauty of Barbados’ East Coast, which will undoubtedly take your breath away. Dramatic limestone cliffs are pounded by the powerful Atlantic Ocean, whilst miles of deserted white sand beaches stretch as far as the eye can see. This is a stark contrast to the relatively flat and gentle landscapes of the rest of the island.

From Cherry Tree Hill, you can also see Cattlewash Beach, the longest beach in Barbados, whilst to the South you can spot Chalky Mount, the second highest point on the island, and Hackleton’s Cliff. Breathe in the fresh sea air and get your camera ready to capture the magnificent views, which are even better on a clear day. A visit to Cherry Tree Hill is a must during your holiday in Antigua.
