Dolphin Encounters

Duration: Half Day

dolphin encounters

If you dream of swimming with dolphins during your holiday in the Bahamas, the Dolphin Encounters complex on the stunning Blue Lagoon Island offers all sorts of exciting experiences for visitors. This large, all-natural seawater dolphin habitat is one of the most popular attractions in the Bahamas. Enjoy heart-warming encounters with these beautiful, sociable creatures and make a friend for life.

Owned by a local family, Dolphin Encounters began in 1989 when two Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins were rescued from an aquarium which had closed in Nassau. The animals were relocated to a large natural dolphin habitat on Treasure Island, also known as Great Guana Cay. Six more dolphins joined the marine mammal family soon after and Dolphin Encounters was founded.
Due to its success, the company opened a new facility on Salt Cay (Blue Lagoon Island) near Nassau, where the dolphin habitat was enlarged by over three acres. The family expanded again after six California sea lions were rescued after a hurricane, and will get the chance to meet, hug, kiss, feed and play with these affectionate and humorous marine mammals upon your arrival.

Of course, the main attraction of the day is the bottlenose dolphins. Watch these graceful creatures swimming, flipping and diving happily in their pristine natural lagoon. Blue Lagoon Island is the epitome of an untouched paradise island, boasting crystal clear turquoise waters, powdery white sandy beaches, swaying coconut palms, lush tropical vegetation and coral reefs teeming with hundreds of exotic fish. This is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world to enjoy a close encounter with a dolphin in its natural habitat.

As well as learning about the ecology and natural history of the dolphins, the Dolphin Encounter program will enable you to kiss, hug and dance with these intelligent and extremely friendly mammals, which will all be captured on camera for you to relive this amazing experience back home.
In the Dolphin Swim Program, not only can you swim, interact and play with the dolphins, you can also enjoy the “foot push”, one of the most exhilarating and memorable moments of the adventure. Feel the dolphins’ mighty strength as they swim underneath you and push you up with their noses, lifting you above the water from the bottom of your feet. Enjoy the adrenaline rush as you glide across the water at high speed. It’s just like surfing on dolphins! A day on Blue Lagoon Island is an unforgettable experience for all the family.
