Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas to open first 700 rooms in April 2017

Despite its turbulent beginning, the Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas is due to open in April, 2017. According to the island nation’s Prime Minister, Perry Christie, the $3.5 billion resort will launch its first phase with the partial opening of a casino hotel that will be operated by Hyatt Hotels, and will have 1,800 guest rooms and suites. The rest of the development will be opened in further stages in 2017.

Bob Marley’s former home in Bahamas transformed into chic resort

Bob Marley might have been one of the most famous Jamaicans that ever lived but the Bahamas has also been a special part of his family’s life. The family had an eight-bedroom family home in a former governor’s mansion on the north side of the island, which has now been transformed into a luxury boutique resort and spa for holidaymakers by Bob Marley’s wife.

Grand Bahama's Old Bahama Bay to reopen in December

After closing for two months to make renovations following Hurricane Matthew, Grand Bahama’s Old Bahama Bay Resort and Yacht Harbour is scheduled to reopen on December 19. The resort suffered only slight damage in the hurricane, but used the down time to make refurbishments and to build a shopping deck that will feature local vendors.

The Bahamas named Leading Luxury Destination of the Caribbean at World Travel Awards 2016

The Bahamas was awarded the title of "Leading Luxury Destination of the Caribbean” at the prestigious World Travel Awards Caribbean & North America Gala Ceremony 2016. The tropical archipelago nation scooped the award for the second year in a row at the glamorous regional ceremony which was held last month at the Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Jamaica.

Two Sandals Resorts in Bahamas close following damage from Hurricane Matthew

Following the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Sandals Resorts International has announced that the re-opening of Sandals Royal Bahamian will be postponed until 25th October, 2016. The hotel in Nassau was scheduled to open on 14th October, but damage from the hurricane has added extra work. Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma was also damaged and will remain closed until 15th December, 2016.

New plans for Baha Mar mega resort in Bahamas

The failed Baha Bar mega resort in the Bahamas has been given a new lease of life after the Bahamas government and the Export-Import Bank of China recently signed an agreement. The contract states that construction of the resort will be completed and then sold to a "world-class" hotel group. Construction is scheduled to start in September and the new resort could open before the end of the 2016/2017 high season.

Bahamas to host 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup for first time

More than 300 soccer athletes, coaches and sports officials will be heading to the Bahamas next year, when the island nation hosts the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup for the first time. The influx of visitors will provide a welcome boost to the Caribbean country's economy, with 15 visiting teams, their support teams and fans staying for the two-week event.

Warwick Paradise Island Bahamas launches early bird promotion ahead of October opening

The Warwick Paradise Island Bahamas has released details about its introductory room rates ahead of its opening in October, 2016. The all-inclusive adults-only resort on Paradise Island will have 250 guest room, and holidaymakers will be able to enjoy a 30 per cent discount on rooms with an Early Bird Savings promotion for booking made before 31 July, 2016.

$1.5 million expansion project at Bahamas airport nearly complete

An airport in the Bahamas could soon receive a huge boost in tourism after it was hit by Hurricane Joaquin in 2015. San Salvador International Airport in the Out Islands is undergoing a $1.5 million expansion and upgrade project that will include a check-in counter, an expanded waiting area, and a more "user-friendly" immigration and customs venue.
