Life's a beach in the Bahamas

With an unparalleled collection of thousands of small islands and keys, the Bahamas is perfect for island hoppers and beach lovers looking for a castaway experience. Discover your own tranquil corner, or stroll through the streets and imagine what it was like when these islands were a pirate's paradise.

If island hopping doesn't suit you, why not enjoy the vivid colours of a unique Bahamian beach at one of our luxury Bahamian resorts. Have a chat with one of our travel advisers about how to experience maximum relaxation and uninterrupted pampering during your break.

Nassau, a destination in its own right

Many might think of Nassau as just another island, home to the Bahamas' capital and the heart of the country's commercial centre, but there's much more to it than most people assume. Nassau is surprisingly different to the rest of the islands, far more developed and with an incredibly vibrant and modern atmosphere, a rich colonial heritage and a long line-up of luxury hotels.

Beyond stunning, postcard-perfect beaches, Nassau also offers excellent shopping opportunities for the most amazing retail therapy experiences in the Caribbean, a buzzing nightlife in the form of trendy bars, lounges, nightclubs and casinos, as well as a selection of gourmet restaurants and elegantly casual dining venues. But ultimate relaxation and recreation also have a place here, as Nassau's Paradise Island (a dreamy enclave connected to mainland Nassau via a causeway) is home to a golf course, an aquarium and incredible hotels such as the uniquely mega-impressive Atlantis.

Adventures in, on and over the water

Deserted beaches and spectacular coves might be a great place to relax but they're also great for creating your own adventure. Swim with dolphins at the Blue Lagoon, go sailing to the Abacos Islands or parasail high above the waves for the very best view of the islands. Or why not go for the ultimate escapist adventure and head to an island solely inhabited by pigs? We're talking about Big Mayor Cay in Exuma – the Official Home of the Swimming Pigs. You can pet this adorable colony of ultra-friendly oinkers, feed them, pet them and even swim with them! How's that for special?

For an adventure of the cultural kind, the frenetic parades and music at the Junkanoo carnival will allow you to experience the true Bahamian party atmosphere. This colourful culture still retains some elements of its British past so you won't feel too out of place, even when you get caught up in one of the many street parties.

A dream honeymoon destination

With so many different little islands (each with a unique personality of its own) to choose from, so many deserted beach coves to cosy up on and so many luxury hotels in which to be pampered to the core, the Bahamas concocts the perfect image that most honeymooners dream off, providing every romantic touch imaginable to guarantee the most special of post-wedding celebrations.

The Bahamas excels at creating bespoke honeymoons and most of its resorts cater for honeymooners with exclusive honeymoon packages, complimentary honeymoon specials such as ultra-pampering couples' spa treatments, romantic dinners for two on the beach (underneath a blanket of glittering stars) and scenic sailing journeys onboard catamarans and yachts for amazing island-hopping adventure. Romance starts here, you only need to add the love.

Grand Bahama, Exuma and Harbour Island

Yes, there are over 14 different island and cay clusters to pick from in the Bahamas, so why select these three? Well, these three deserve special attention given some of their unique attributes, such as The Exumas' 007 appeal (two James Bond films were partly shot here), Harbour Island's rolling hill plantations or Grand Bahama's status as the island nation's second city.

A chain of no less than 365 white cays comprise The Exumas giving you an ever-changing hue of blue colours to admire as you explore its length and breadth. Grand Bahama offers a wealth of recreational options, from golf courses and tennis courts to plenty of splashing watersport action at Port Lucaya, as well as quiet pine forests to hike through and excellent kayaking to be done on scenic mangrove creeks. Or, you could just lay back and take in the pink sand glory of the beaches at Harbour Island (a.k.a. Eleuthera).

Easy twinning with other Caribbean gems

If the Bahamas alone wasn't enticing enough, we also give you the opportunity to pair it up with some of our most coveted Caribbean destinations; to make for the most memorable and exciting twin holiday adventures you could experience on this corner of the planet.

The Bahamas is easily combinable with other desirable tropical hotspots such as Cuba, Jamaica and even Miami. So, you could be soaking up Montego Bay's chilled charm before experiencing Havana's upbeat atmosphere and seductive rhythms or exchanging Miami's pumping nightclubs for Exuma's castaway feel. Whatever you prefer, we can easily do a bit of "twinning" to create an awesome two-in-one holiday experience.
