Evening Tamarind Dhow Tour

Duration: Half Day

evening tamarind dhow tour

Spend a romantic evening sailing around the island of Mombasa on a luxurious Tamarind Dhow during your holiday in Kenya. Arabic Dhows have been sailing along the coast of East Africa for centuries but the "Nawalilkher" and “Babulkher” dhows have been completely refurbished as floating restaurants. Soak up the magical atmosphere whilst you enjoy traditional African music, exotic seafood and excellent service on this memorable scenic cruise. This tour will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your holiday.

A luxury coastal cruise on a beautiful Tamarind Dhow is the ultimate dining experience in East Africa. As soon as you step aboard this traditional Arab wooden sailing vessel, you will be greeted by a traditionally dressed waiter who will show you to your table. As well as being served sumptuous East African delicacies, you can also enjoy sipping the famous ‘Dawa’ as the sun goes down. Meaning “medicine” in Swahili, this delicious house cocktail is made with vodka, lime, sugar, honey and crushed ice. As the dhow sails gently away from the jetty, get ready for an evening of fun, relaxation and romance under the stars. As the live band belts out rhythmic African beats, it doesn’t take long for guests to start tapping their feet or dancing on the main deck.

Marvel at the scenic sights of Mombasa’s coastline as we sail silently along Tudor Creek. Steeped in history, this colourful island town is Kenya’s second largest city. Enjoy beautiful views of Old Town, the original settlement of Mombasa, as we cruise onwards to Fort Jesus. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century to guard the entrance of the Old Dhow Harbour, this well preserved historical monument is Mombasa’s most significant landmark.

Whilst the dhow is moored in a quiet sheltered bay along Tudor Creek, you can watch the chefs cooking fresh seafood such as lobster and prawns, as well as juicy prime fillet steaks, on a flaming charcoal grill. Desert includes a fresh tropical salad, Kenyan coffee and halwa (sweets). The sights and smells of this sumptuous four-course feast will certainly get your mouth watering. After dinner, enjoy more music and dancing as we sail back to shore under the stars. This magical dining cruise is an unforgettable African experience.
