Desert Jeep Safari and Sunset Barbecue Dinner
Duration: Half Day
If an exciting off-road desert adventure appeals to you during your holiday in Egypt, spend an exotic evening riding camels across the sand dunes as the sun sets, and immerse yourself in authentic Bedouin culture at a traditional desert camp. This unforgettable safari is an experience not to be missed.
Leaving Hurghada behind us, your tour will begin with an exhilarating, one-hour jeep ride through Egypt’s beautiful Eastern Desert, across vast golden sands that stretch as far as the eye can see. You will eventually come to a traditional Bedouin Camp, where you will receive a warm welcome from the local Bedouin people. These ancient desert dwellers are used to surviving harsh desert conditions, which vary between extreme heat and cutting winds, and have proudly maintained their culture for thousands of years.
Bedouin camps have been scattered throughout the desert along major routes for centuries, providing food and shelter for herders travelling by camel from oasis to oasis. Immerse yourself in the Bedouin culture and get to know your hospitable hosts as they share their knowledge of the desert and their simple but fascinating lifestyle and traditions. If you are feeling adventurous, you will get the opportunity to ride a camel across the rolling sand dunes before dinner.
Inside the Bedouin tent you will be seated on beautifully embroidered cushions and traditional Arabic carpets whilst your hosts supply you with refreshments such as hot, sweet Bedouin tea or Arabic coffee. You will also get the opportunity to smoke a traditional Arabic water pipe, known as a Narhileh or ‘hubbly bubbly' during dinner.
Get to know your fellow travellers and hosts as you tuck into a delicious barbecue meal as the sun goes down. Marvel at the spectacular desert sunset, and watch the hues of the sand subtly change from golden to orange and red. The dramatic landscape is a sight to behold. Soak up the silence of this vast, solitary wilderness, listening to nothing but the stillness of the night. This enriching experience will give you a wonderful insight into Bedouin culture and a deeper appreciation of the ancient beauty and mystery of the desert.
