Mahmaya - Giftun Island Snorkelling Trip

Duration: Half Day

mahmaya - giftun island snorkelling trip

If you are staying in Hurghada during your holiday in Egypt, no visit would be complete without a trip to the beautiful Giftun Island. Relax on the pristine white sands of Mahmya Beach and spend time snorkeling in the crystal clear azure waters of the Red Sea. This tour promises a wonderful day of pure relaxation in paradise.

Aside from its archeological wonders and ancient treasures, Egypt is renowned for its glorious golden beaches. After Sharm el Sheikh, the Hurghada region on the shores of the Red Sea is now one of the most popular beach destinations for tourists. From here you can enjoy an unforgettable day of sunbathing and snorkeling on one of Hurghada’s stunning offshore islands.

This excursion will take you to the Mahmya resort on the protected island of Giftun, home to one of Egypt’s most breathtaking beaches. As soon as you step off the boat it will feel as if you have crossed the Red Sea to a tropical island in the Caribbean rather than Egypt. Boasting powdery white sands, sparkling turquoise waters and spectacular coral reefs, the idyllic picture-postcard scenery will take your breath away. It’s no wonder that this uninhabited paradise is such a popular romantic escape.

Meaning 'protected' in Arabic, Mahmya was designed as an environmentally friendly eco-tourist destination. The resort was carefully built under the supervision of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) to ensure minimal impact on the environment. The palm tree parasols, grassy huts and wooden bridges are handcrafted from trunks and branches, whilst furnishings are made from native wood and locally produced products.

Aside from Giftun’s spectacular natural beauty, the island’s main attraction for visitors is its protected marine park, which offers some of the best snorkelling opportunities in the Red Sea. Discover Egypt’s breathtaking undersea treasures as you explore the vibrant coral gardens which are teeming with tropical marine life. Occupying part of the Great Rift Valley, Egypt’s warm, crystal clear waters host an incredibly diverse underwater world. Swim amongst hundreds of brightly-coloured fish, as well as starfish, rays, tuna, barracuda, moray eels, octopus, turtles and even dolphins if you are lucky.

While enjoying Mahmya, visitors must be aware that they have a responsibility to follow the rules and regulations established by the National Parks of Egypt. Lunch and refreshments are included in the tour.
